6 million dollars worth of gold, who wouldn’t want to have that much money? How far would you go to get it? Steal an 18-karat golden toilet?

The Golden Loo Is Gone!!!

The toilet-turned-art-piece was named “America” by it’s creator Maurizio Cattelan. Cattelan is an Italian artist with the new exhibition “Victory Is Not An Option”. ‘America’ was stolen on September 14th from Blenheim Palace. Philip Austin from Fine Art Specie Adjusters (FASA), the palace’s insurance company, told CNN that a reward of up to 100K would be paid if specific conditions are met.

Philip Austins Conditions

First condition: The item must be safely returned. Second: There must be an arrest as part of the investigation. “We have to be very careful that we don’t pay the villains,” Mr. Austin said.

Any Guesses? A Few.

Thames Valley Police say that a Navy Blue Volkswagen Golf R was stolen around the same time, and still hasn’t been found. They believe it had cloned plates at the time of the theft of ‘America.’ The police have arrested two men on suspicion of the burglary. One, 66, was arrested and bailed out. The other, 35, was arrested for conspiracy to the burglary and has been released under investigation.

It Was Nowhere Near Easy

“It’s not going to be the easiest thing to nick,” said Edward Spencer-Churchill, half-brother of the current Duke of Marlborough’s and founder of the Blenheim Art Foundation. “Firstly, it’s plumbed in and secondly, a potential thief will have no idea who last used the toilet or what they ate. So no, I don’t plan to be guarding it.” Mr. Cattelan has described these thieves as “great performers.”

Mr. Cattelan Responds To The “Great Performers”

Mr. Cattelan said: “When this morning I was informed about the robbery I thought it was a prank and it took me a while, after a few checks, to come to the conclusion that it was true and it wasn’t a surreal movie where instead of the jewels of the crown, the thieves went away with a b***** toilet,” he said in a statement. “I always liked heist movies and finally I’m in one of them.” He also left a direct plea to the robbers saying: “Dear thieves, please, if you are reading this, let me know how much you like the piece and how it feels to pee on gold.”
