If You Have Something From the Moon, Sue To Keep It

  • This is proactive law and the best way to keep what you claim.

Did you ever get something that you coveted? It was yours and no one had anything like it? You would do anything to keep it? Was it from the moon?

What about if Neil Armstrong gave you a vial of moon dust? Could this be your one and only? Would you sue Nasa to keep it? There is one lady who would..

Cicco said she kept Armstrong’s autograph in her bedroom but that she didn’t see the dust until she was going through her parents’ possessions give years ago.

NASA has no reclaimed the vial, but Cicco says that she doesn’t want them to take it and went so far as to file a lawsuit proactively inserting her rights to it. It may be a little weird but but proactive law says that in some cases, involving trademarks, contracts, and/or potential disputes, it is easier, cheaper and faster to address problems before they happen instead of reacting to them once they’ve already come to fruition.

Cicco has an attorney who says that Armstrong’s signature has been authenticated but autograph experts. According to court documents, the expert who analyzed the dust would say only that the moon dust sample may have originated from the moon’s surface.

There is no law that says people cannot own materials that are from the moon but also that the agency has seized suspected lunar material before from private citizens. So I guess Cicco wasn’t too paranoid when she filed the suit.

There was a case back in 2011 where NASA staged a sting and got back lunar material from a 74-year-old woman whose husband had worked on the Apollo 11 mission. The agency claimed the materials were stolen but no suit was ever brought against the woman.

Well, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens. But this is odd news, and awesome news. I mean, can you say that you have dust from our one and only moon?
