Angel Food Cake Day And All The Ways To Eat It

  • Time to celebrate all that is Angel Food Cake!

Tomorrow, October 10th, is National Angel Food Cake Day and there are so many different ways you can enjoy it. Angel Food Cake is also called ice cream cake and Pennsylvania Dutch Wedding Cake.

Blueberry Lemon

Blueberries and lemons are an amazing flavor combination and even better with this light, fluffy cake. Add lemon extract to the cake batter and bake your cake. On the side, make a glaze out of water and powdered sugar, again adding a bit of lemon extract. Also add a small splash of vanilla extract. Stir and taste to preference. From there mix a couple tablespoons of blueberry jam and a couple cups of blueberries. Add water for a drizzly consistency. Pour the glaze and blueberry topping over the top of your cake and eat it up!

Chocolate Marshmallow Fudge Drizzle

There is nothing better than a soft and airy cake covered in chocolate marshmallow fudge drizzle and if you haven’t tried it, you really have to. Warm marshmallow fluff and chocolate together to create a sauce and pour that baby all over your cake once cooled. Eat immediately and enjoy every last bite!

Cinnamon and Peaches

If fresh peaches are in season (summer,) use those, otherwise the peaches in a can in light syrup are perfect as well. Dice up your peaches and warm them in a pan with a bit of the juice from the can (or a splash of water if you’re using fresh.) Add a bit of brown sugar to the peaches and cinnamon. Cook until they become a bit of a thicker sauce. Serve warm right away or chill this mixture and add it to your cake.

Layered Angel Food Cake

Layering this cake and adding toppings to each layer creates a beautiful look and a tasty bite. Whether you use chocolate, nutella, fruit jam, glaze or whipped cream, it will be so good. Start by cutting your cake into three separate layers. Add your first cake layer to a plate and cover it with your sauce of choice and fresh fruit like berries, pears, kiwis, tangerines or pretty much anything. From there, repeat the process with the other layers and finish the whole thing off with a dusting of powdered sugar.

Whipped Cream and Berries

Whipped cream and berries are one of the yummiest ways to top angel food cake. Whether you make some homemade whipped cream with whipping cream, vanilla and sugar, or you buy the sweet stuff from the frozen aisle, either will taste delicious on this cake. Use your favorite berries or a mix of strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries. This can be made ahead of time for something you can take to a friends house or just pull out of the refrigerator whenever you’re ready for it.

Whipped Cream and Cherries

Whipped cream and cherries are beautiful as a layer cake as well but either way it will be so tasty. You can use cherry jam, pie filling or even real cherries, soaked in a bit of sugar, and whatever whipped cream you like as well. Cherries and fluffy light cake are spectacular together and it may be one of your favorite combos.

Stuffed Angel Food Cake

Homemade or from a box, make your cake and cool it. Pull out the middle of the top section to make room for your filling. You could do whipped cream, whipped topping with chocolate chips, pie filling and whipped cream, or pretty much anything to fill your cake. From there, select a frosting and cover your cake in it. This cake will shock anyone who didn’t see you make it and have extra yummy filling.
