- We all know that twins share a birthday, or do they?
These twins will have a bunch of similarities in this life, but a birthday won’t be one of them. Even though yes, they are twins.
Aylin and Alfredo Trujillo were born just 15 minutes apart, but because of the special circumstances, the details aren’t what they should be. When the Salinas California Natividad Medical Center helped welcome these babies into the world, it was technically on different days, months, and years.
You guessed it, they were born on New Years Eve, and New Years Day, respectively. Aylin weighed in at 5 pounds, 14 ounces, while Alfredo weighed 6 pounds, 1 ounce.
Alfredo was born at December 31, 2021 at 11:45 p.m., while little sister Aylin waited until January 1, 2022 at midnight to join the family.
“It’s crazy to me that they are twins and have different birthdays,” their mother, Fatima Madrigal, said in a statement. “I was surprised and happy that she arrived at midnight.”
The fraternal twins are joining three siblings, two girls and a boy. Madrigal’s oldest son was very excited knowing that one of the babies was a boy and her family couldn’t wait to meet the twins.
About 120,000 sets of twins are born each year, about 3% of births. But twins born on different days are rare. So rare in fact, that the odds of twins born on different days is about one in 2 million.
An even crazier coincidence caused twins born in 2020 to be born in different decades.
Dr. Ana Abril Arias, who delivered the twins, called their births “an amazing way to start the New Year.”
“This was definitely one of the most memorable deliveries of my career,” Dr. Ana Abril Arias, a family doctor at Natividad Medical Group and faculty at Natividad said, “It was an absolute pleasure to help these little ones arrive here safely in 2021 and 2022.”
It’s crazy to think that just 15 minutes apart can be a monumental difference, depending on the details.
