The body of Zachary Taylor was exhumed June 17, 1991, almost 150 years after his death, to see if he was murdered. Originally, cholera was thought to be the be the cause of death, but it turns out some recent political moves like letting the states of California, Nevada, and Utah, parts of Arizona, New Mexico,
Colorado and Utah decide whether they want to be slave states. The results concluded by Dr. Richard Greenhouse were that, “We obtained all 10 fingernails, sideburns, hair — pubic hair even — and all of this was examined by three separate labs.” The final determination? All three labs found Taylor had normal levels of arsenic in him. Taylor most likely died of “cholera morbus, or acute gastroenteritis.” His doctors treated him with calomel and opium, and bloodletting, which probably exacerbated his condition. Police Officers stepped into a rented San Diego mansion and were immediately met with a “pungent odor.” They soon found 39 dead bodies, all covered with a purple shroud. All the people wore identical black shirts and sweatpants, matching brand new Nike athletic shoes and armbands that said, “Heaven’s Gate Away Team.” All of the people were a part of the religious cult Heaven’s Gate, who together committed ritual suicide believing they could leave their human bodies and achieve the “evolutionary level above human” if their souls transported to a spacecraft trailing the Comet Hale-Bopp. The comet itself was a huge story if the decade as a crazy bright comet visible to the naked eye. It was a group of UFO lovers that became convinced it’s tail was actually a spacecraft that was trailing the comet. When Alan Hale, one of the astronomers that discovered the comet, learned of the suicides and connection to the comet with his name, he was understandingly shocked. There were more suicides to come, including three former members of Heaven’s Gate cult and another man without a connection to the group. This other man left a suicide note that read, “I’m going on the spaceship with Hale-Bopp to be with those who have gone before me.”
Early 1997, Kenny and Bobbi McCaughey got pregnant with seven fetuses, thanks to the help of Metrodin. They declined selective reduction, which was risky as carrying more than one fetus, much less seven, creates more of a risk to the woman and the babies. All the babies were born November 19th, 1997 and are all happy and thriving, even today! This was a wild thing that happened in the 90s.
On March 18, 1990, two men acting like police officers arrived at Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, tied up
the guards, robbed the place and left 81 minutes later with 13 paintings from artists like Degas, Vermeer and Rembrandt. The value of these paintings as of 2022 was $500 million dollars. That’s 5,000,000, if you wanted to see it represented with all the zeros. Detectives suspected Boston mobster Whitey Bulger and the Merlino Gang, amongst others. The paintings were never recovered and this case has never been solved. Did you know about this very expensive and unsolved case that happened in the 90s?
On June 23, 1993, Lorena Bobbitt, 24, cut off the penis of her husband, John Wayne Bobbitt. She then drove, penis in hand, and tossed it out the window and into a field. She called police after that and ultimately helped them track down the penis, which was then reattached. The thing is, the story doesn’t end there. Lorena was tried for malicious wounding and could have gotten 20 years, but she pleaded not guilty and was found not guilty. To make the story even more strange, after the reattachment, John Wayne Bobbitt went on to become a porn star, appearing in films like Uncut and Frankenpenis.
