This Huge Pile of Pennies Was Unexpected

  • And the reason behind it was wacky too.

Are you a coin collector? Because this guy got a whole bunch of pennies and when we say a whole bunch, it was like a whole lot.

The Peachtree City man says that the penny pile was a result of a bitter feud over a final paycheck from a previous job. The man was paid, in pennies, in his driveway.

There was 50 pounds of pennies in his pile.

It all happened after Andreas Flaten submitted his two-week notice back in November. Watch out for mad bosses, apparently his was none too happy about the situation.

“He froze and stared at me for like a straight minute…I remember this so clearly…he gets up, puts his hands on his head, walks out the door and disappears for like an hour,” said Flaten.

He had worked for Walker Luxury Autoworks in Peachtree City for a year, and had known the owner for eight years. According to Flaten, the constant turnover and toxic job environment took its toll.

Flaten returned his work uniforms, washed, and boxed with a letter explaining why he was leaving. He was to be paid his final paycheck in January. When it never came, he said that his boss accused him of damages.

“I honestly at this point never expected him to pay,” said Flaten.

It took five months and a call to Georgia’s Department of Labor before he was paid. His full check, $915, in pennies.

“That comes out to be like 504 pounds of pennies,” exclaimed Flaten.

“I have no where to put ’em. I had no idea what I was going to do like how do I get money from pennies?” added Flaten.

Online criticism is calling this penny dump “petty.” Flatten had the pennies in his garage inside a large wheel barrel. “Brand spanking new wheel barrel that is full to the brim. The … wheels are like busted out to the side, flat…” he said.

Flatten ad his girlfriend say that all the pennies are covered in some type of oil, and that they cannot be cashed until they are cleaned. The owner has not commented up until now.
