Obviously easy to “eat,” smoothies are amazing when you aren’t feeling well. The cold and smooth consistency will feel great on your throat. The fruits and vegetables in your smoothie are full of vitamin C and you can put in almost anything you want, making it super personalize-able.
Well-Cooked Vegetables
If you can get some cooked vegetables into your stomach while you’re sick, you should. They are chock full of vitamins and can be made to be more than easy to eat. Add some butter, salt and a bunch of black pepper and enjoy!
Honey
Two teaspoons of honey can act as a cough suppressant, did you know that? It’s coating to your throat as well and has a sweet yet natural taste. Have you ever taken a couple teaspoons of honey when you were sick?
Yogurt
The live cultures in yogurt can help boost your immune system and there are so many different yogurts to enjoy. Better yet, you can mix almost anything into your yogurt, making it more delicious and nutritious! For more protein, add protein powder. If you want more vitamins, add fruits or vegetables you love. And if you want a little sweetness, add in a scoop of preserves or jam! Your belly with thank you for it and so will your throat.
Ginger
Ginger is great to fight against nausea, but it turns out it’s great for your throat, too. Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties, known for reducing the swelling and pain that comes with a sore throat.
Tea
Warm, not hot tea, can really help soothe you. A study found that gargling green tea helps to ease pain after surgery and can be soothing to a scratchy throat.
Pasta
Pasta can be pretty easy to eat and filling when you’re not feeling well. Plus, you can pick whatever size and shape you want and add things like an easy butter sauce or even a bunch of chicken broth.
Eggs
Eggs are a powerhouse food, full of vitamins, fat and protein. Not only that, they also have infection-fighting minerals like zinc, iron, and selenium.
Ice Cream
Ice cream is cold, smooth and creamy and is there really a more delicious way to soothe your sore throat? A study states that ice cream has a soothing effect for patients following a tonsillectomy.
