We still don’t know what happened to this toddler who vanished at the age of three from the bed she was sleeping in during her family’s vacation in Praia de Luz in Portugal on May 3rd, 2007. German officials named Christian Brueckner, a man in his 40s, as the prime suspect in the middle of 2020. A convicted rapist and pedophile, Brueckner was in the area in 2007 and told his then-lover, “I know what happened to little Maddie.” At the end of the day, officials were never able to prosecute him regarding Madeleine’s disappearance due to lack of evidence.
The Hinterkaifeck Murders
The Hinterkaifeck murders happened in Germany in 1922. There were six members of the family and they all died from massive head trauma due to their heads and faces repeatedly being struck with a mattock or a pickaxe-shaped farming tool. They were then laid on top of one another underneath the hay in the barn. The maid and two year old were killed in the same way but their remains were found in the house. It was discovered that someone was staying in the farmhouse for days after the murders but despite over a hundred interviews, no one was ever charged with these murders. They even talked to traveling salesmen and people from the neighboring towns. Have you heard about this as one of the pretty famous crimes?
Mr. Cruel
Between 1987 and 1990 a child rapist tormented young families in the city of Melbourne, Australia. Girls aged 10 to 13 had this man break into their house, tie up their relatives and abduct them while wearing balaclava. They went through terrible times and were them released, however, the body of a fourth victim was discovered in 1991. Mr. Cruel was known for washing his victims so that there was no evidence at the crime as forensics were still being refined and developed. Not only did he threaten the families with a knife and a gun and even videotaped his action using his camera or camcorder. Mr. Cruel has not been identified to this day.
The Severed Feet
This case involved 21 severed human feet that washed up on the Pacific Northwest’s Salish Sea coastlines. One was the foot of Antonio Neill according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office in 2017. Neill was reported missing at the age of 22 in 2016 and was the 15th human food to wash ashore in the 2010s. Some think the feet are victims of an unknown serial killer while others think the feet could be victims of human trafficking. Most of the severed feet have been identified yet the reasons they think the feet wash up on this shoreline is speculative. Most of the feet belong to men that disappeared a few years before the feet were found. This has got to be one of the most wild of all the crimes!
The Sodder Children
On Christmas Eve in 1945, the Sodder home was destroyed by a fire. There were nine total Sodder children and four of them escaped the fire. The thing is, there was no trace of the other five found in the house once the fire died out. The fire was intense enough to cremate the remains but under the same setting, no one could cremate the bones to ash. There were also multiple witness who said they saw the remaining children after the fire, leaving questions of the children having been trafficked or under the control of an insurance salesman. The parents believed that their children were still alive but at the end of it all, they never got any answers.
