- Electricity is dangerous — especially if you don’t know what you’re doing with it.
In a healthy relationship, it’s good to share in each other’s unique perspectives as experiences. It can help you understand one another better and add extra depth to your bond.
Or it could almost kill you if you take it too far.
That’s what happened with this Chinese couple. As part of their engagement, the woman wanted her boo to go through a childbirth pain simulation.
During the simulation, the man receives electric shocks to experience pain similar to giving birth. Asking to undergo the process sounds a bit extreme, but since the couple wanted kids, the man agreed to it.
His fiancée, however, turned the simulation into essentially a three-hour electro-torture session. By the end of it, the man in agony and vomiting for two days straight.
When he finally collapsed and was taken to a hospital, it was discovered his small intestine had become necrotic and required immediate removal. When the fiancée tried to solicit sympathy by sharing her actions on social media, she instead faced immediate public shunning.
Oh, and the wedding’s off, in case you were wondering.
Engagement Conditions
The couple in our story hails from the east-central Henan province of China. They had been dating for a while and had started talking about getting married.
However, as they planned to have children, the woman’s mother and sister (and we assume she, too) felt like the man should share in the pain of childbirth. In other words, they dictated that he would have to undergo childbirth simulation if he wanted to take the woman’s hand in marriage.
“No way, Jose,” the man replied at first (in Chinese, naturally). However, as his fiancée’s mother wouldn’t back down on the demand, he eventually relented—reluctantly.
It’s a few electric shocks for what was supposed to be a lifetime of happiness. Not a bad deal, you’d think.
So, the man and his fiancée went a maternity clinic where the woman’s sister worked. The man laid down in a chair, she attached electrodes to his stomach, and the simulation started.
Three Hours of Horror
Now, childbirth simulation basically works by shocking the participating guy’s stomach with electricity to produce a pain sensation comparable to giving birth. We’re talking about some strong shocks here, so it’s important the person administering them knows what they’re doing.
And that’s where this whole thing falls apart.
Although her sister worked at the maternity clinic, it was the fiancée who controlled the electric shocks. And she clearly didn’t quite understand what she was doing.
She started easily enough, turning the shocker machine to the lower ones of its 12 levels. She gradually increased the intensity of the shocks — over the next 90 minutes.
As the shocks got stronger, the man’s pain naturally increased. According to Chinese media, he started feeling unbearable around level 8, and began to struggle and shout.
So, the woman turned off the machine, right? Of course not. Instead, she cranked up power.
At pain level 10, the man was in such agony that he was crying and cursing incoherently. And then the fiancée turned the shocks up to the maximum level 12.
For the next 90 minutes.
The man reportedly was breathing rapidly in shallow, violent gasps. He was sweating so much that his clothes looked like someone had dunked him in a swimming pool.
By the time his fiancée finally ended the torture, the man was utterly spent. The electric current had completely devastated his abs, which were stuck in a rock-hard cramp.
And that was just the beginning of the nightmare.
Dead Tissue
Following his electro-torture, the man was in horrendous abdominal pain and vomited through the night. Over the next few days, he eventually stopped throwing up and his pain subsided a little bit.
And then it all crashing back. About a week later, the man essentially collapsed in agony and was rushed to the hospital.
The doctors didn’t have good news. The electric shock had caused the man’s small intestine to become necrotic, with its tissues dying off inside the man.
That’s a life-threatening condition. There was nothing else for the doctors to do but to immediately remove the dead length of the man’s intestines.
We probably don’t need to point out that the man’s family was slightly furious. We assume he would’ve been too, but he was really no condition to get upset.
Unsurprisingly, the man’s family called the wedding off and have sued the woman for damages. So, in a completely logical move, she went on Chinese social media and made a post about what she’d done.
Maybe she expected people to take her side. That’s not what happened, though, and she was ripped to shreds in the comments.
She has reportedly since deleted her social media presence. That won’t help her hide from the lawsuit, though.
