German Smurfs Break World Record

  • That's Smurftastic!

Great ball of smurfs! This is the most smurfs we’ve seen in all of Papa Smurfs 543 years! It’s just a Smurfcation… Good thing we found no sign of the treacherous Gargamel or his faithful fiend Azreal. German Smurfs gathered in Lauchringen in Southern Germany on Feb. 16 to try and break the Guinness record for largest gathering of Smurfs in the world.

Great Smurf Gathering

Smurfs have been entrancing people since the 1950s.  In 2009 saw the first record set in Swansea, Welsh, 2,510 “Smurfs” showed up. Germany has tried a few times, failing their attempt in 2016 with a mere 2,149. On February 16th of this year, Germany made another attempt, only this time they got 2,762 Smurfs. There were people who took their own twist to the comic icons. Inside Edition caught it all on video.

Rules Of The Game

The rules are very clear. People must cover all of their bare skin blue and wear only Smurf attire. The attire includes a blue shirt and white pants and shoes. While they strongly suggest that you wear a white hat, many of the fans opted to dress as Papa Smurf with a red hat.

Smurf History And Information, Or Is It Smurfstory And Smurformation?

Fun fact to start our history of the Smurfs, Germany call the them Schlumpfs. The Schlumpfs started out as Franco-Belgian comics, in the 1950s. They live in a village and were created by the Belgian cartoonist Pierre Culliford, A.K.A. Peyo. The comics soon became very popular. They eventually turned it into cartoons that saw their height in the ’80s, and even more recent live-action animated films.

The characters were turned into merchandise sold all over the world. Since 1958 the movies and the TV shows have grown to be worth eight billion dollars. The shows are translated into thirty different languages. They still release the series and movies on 120 channels worldwide.
