- If nothing else, we now know that the Bigfoot is packing some junk in the trunk.
Ah, Bigfoot. What would America’s forests be without stories about the mysterious ape man lurking in the trees.
Bigfoot has to make an appearance every now and then, however, to keep the legend going. This time, he decided to pop up in Michigan.
A father-and-son duo was out on a fishing trip near the city of Monroe, Michigan, when their dog scared off something in the underbrush. Not thinking much of it, they continued their outing.
Later on, the thing came back. The father and son described it as being the size of a bear but looking like gorilla.
Unfortunately, the events happened so fast that they didn’t have to take even a blurry photo. That said, people have reported encounters with a Bigfoot-like creature in the Monroe area for decades, so perhaps there really is something out there.
First Encounter
This Bigfoot incident took place on May 18. Edward Henry and his 12-year-old son submitted a report of the events to the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO).
Yes, that’s a real group.
That Sunday morning, Henry and his son, along with their dog, were walking into a marshy area by Plum Creek near Monroe. They had planned to do some bow fishing while enjoying nature in general.
After walking some 100 yards, their dog scared off something that had been lying on the ground. It took off in a hurry.
“Trees were shaking,” Henry described in his report.
However, the two fishermen didn’t think much of it. Deer regularly come to rest in the small pocket of greenery, and they figured the dog had just spooked a herd of deer. So, they continued business as usual.
“We sat and enjoyed the wildlife for a little while. We headed back through cattails and saw a lot of deer beds on the way,” said Henry.
Then, they heard sirens in the distance. Henry pulled out his phone and earbuds to listen in on a police scanner app to find out what was going on.
And then something jumped down from the tree next to them.
‘Hairy Back, Big Butt Cheeks’
In the report, Henry said that he and his son heard something rustling in a tree to their left. Suddenly, something big and hairy jumped off and hit the ground with a thud.
“A big heavy animal hit the ground and crouched and started moving towards me through brush,” said Henry.
According to the testimony both Henry and his son gave to the BFRO, the being was a “large furred primate.” Even in a hunched posture, it was nearly six feet tall.
Seeing the creature, Henry’s dog began barking and running toward it. This seemed to have scared the being, as it took off running on two legs.
As the creature ran over an embankment, Henry and his son saw “the hairy back and big butt cheeks pretty clearly for a few seconds.” All in all, the encounter took less than 10 seconds, not giving Henry enough time to even think about taking a photo.
Which is a pity, because someone should’ve immortalized that Bigfoot booty.
Bigfoot Paradise
Now, stories of Bigfoot typically take place in deep forest. As such, it seems a bit strange that the creature would’ve wandered into this tiny wooded area near a large city.
However, according to BFRO investigator Matthew Moneymaker, the potential Bigfoot had reasons to be in Monroe.
“This pocket of forest and marsh is not cut off from other green belts and farmlands in the area,” wrote Moneymaker.
He adds that Bigfoot could easily get into the area along the railroad track that runs by the woods.
“Bigfoots will walk along railroad beds for long distances. The railroad beds will sometime bring them into pockets of woods very close to towns, as it this case,” he said.
As to why Bigfoot would come to Monroe, the answer is pretty simple. There’s food.
“There are herds of deer in the marsh and woods year round. There are lots of cattails around this marsh as well. Therefore, two things bigfoots consume, especially in winter: cattails and deer. There are likely other food sources around this marsh as well,” Moneymaker theorized.
Additionally, there are other stories about Bigfoot, or perhaps Bigfeet even, in the Monroe area. The first reported encounter happened in 1965, when an ape-like creature is claimed to have attacked a car on a remote road.
This thing was called the Monroe Monster, and it certainly was more aggressive than whatever Henry and his son saw. Perhaps there’s more than one legendary beast in the area.
