Court Finds Middle School Teacher Robert Crosland Not Guilty: Part One

  • The court may not find him guilty, but the internet sure does.

But there are a lot of people who do find Crosland guilty, and they are speaking up, too. In fact, when this story came out early last year, Preston Junior High School in Preston Idaho was at the center of this whole controversy. And this is what happened.

Crosland was accused of animal cruelty and over 3,400 people stepped forward and sign a petition to see him prosecuted and fired. But the thing is, 2,400 people stepped up too, but not to reprimand Crosland, nope. They stood with him, and all signed a petition supporting him.

Crosland allegedly fed a live puppy to a snapping turtle named Jaws in front of a small group of students after school hours. The puppy was reportedly sick and was expected to die soon.

Most parents were outraged along with much of the community while others thought his actions were justified. The verdict was left up to 6 jurors after only 30 minutes of deliberation.

Many felt as if the ruling was not just and that he should be held accountable for his actions. Crosland was charged with only one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty in June after a complaint was made against him to the Preston Police Department.

The Preston School District said this about it at the time, “The event was not a part of any school-directed program. We emphasize that at no time was the safety of students or staff compromised.”

Crosland’s side of the story was shared as, “I honestly thought I was doing the right thing by putting it out of its misery.”

The prosecution states that the puppy may have been able to survive and possibly was not sick. During the trial, the gory details came to light.

The puppy was placed in a tank full of water and paddled for a short distance before it was drug under the water by the turtle. It had drowned before Jaws began to eat it.

He did it in front of a small group of children, including his own son. For the rest of the story go HERE.
