9 of the Saddest and Most Bizarre Soccer Stadium Snacks

  • Maybe it’d be better to just smuggle your own food into the games.

When seeing a sports game, whether it be baseball, football, or anything else, you’ll probably buy some kind of a snack at the stadium. Sadly, those hot dogs and nachos are sometimes so pathetic they barely qualify as food.

It’s the same story around the world. The vendors at sports stadiums might serve local delicacies, but they don’t always cook them right

Footy Scran is a Twitter user dedicated to covering different dishes served at soccer stadiums all over the globe. Some of the things he’s seen (and presumably eaten) are absolutely mindboggling.

Here’s a collection of some of our questionable favorites.

1. The Hottest of Dogs…

All photos by @FootyScran on Twitter.

Often, by the time you get to your seat, the warm snack you just bought has already gotten cold. There’s no worry about that with this hot dog served at a Queens Park Rangers game.

Looking at this thing, you can’t help but wonder why whoever cooked that decided to serve it. It doesn’t take that long to heat up a hot dog bun — just admit you messed up and give a paying customer something that’s not burnt to a crisp.

The saddest part, though, is that in our experience, the hot dog itself will still be icy cold.

2. …And Its Cold Sibling

If the previous hot dog had been cooked for too long, you can’t say the same about this… Thing. Yet, we have to admit that the sausage sure does look like ground meat packed into an intestine, though.

Technically, we suppose this qualifies as a dog. There’s the wiener and the bun — split in two as it might be — but the “hot” is definitely not part of the equation.

But the real kicker is that this monstrosity cost almost $8.30 in U.S. dollars.

3. World’s Saddest Cheeseburger

We’ve all had a bad burger at some point. But we can honestly say that even the lousiest cheeseburger we’ve had seemed like haute cuisine compared to this atrocity.

At least the patty looks cooked. That said, it can’t be warm, considering that sad slice of processed cheese doesn’t show the slightest sign of melting.

Frankly, our mouths dried up just looking at this travesty of a burger. You’d better order a drink with that.

4. The Supposed Philly Cheesesteak

Okay, so Philly cheesesteak is a very American food, so you can’t really fault the British for putting their own spin on it. But whoever cooked this cheesesteak heard “steak” and doubled down on that.

We think we can just barely see the cheese under that slab of some meat product. We’re not even going to guess what animal that came from.

It’s most definitely well done, though. Note to the rest of the world — this isn’t how you do a Philly cheesesteak.

5. The Crappy Patty

We take back everything we said about that earlier cheeseburger. Just look at this crime against hamburgers.

That patty looks like it’s barely thawed! And is that supposed to be cheese we see peeking out from under it?

Know what, it’s probably safer to go hungry than eat whatever this is.

6. A Fishy Treat

No, you’re not seeing things — that is a herring fillet stuffed inside a bun. Allow us to introduce you to Fischbrötchen, a German delicacy.

You might recoil at the idea, but a well-made herring bun is actually quite good. That said, would it be our first choice if we saw it on a football stadium menu?

Probably not. But come on, compared to the other “foods” we’ve covered so far, this sandwich seems like a feast.

7. The Indescribable Tube

We have to admit — we had no idea what we were looking at when we first saw this picture. So, we had to do some research.

It turns out that the thing on the bun is a frikandel, a Dutch delicacy. It’s a cylinder-shaped piece of deep-fried ground meat, so you could think of it as a kind of tubular meatball.

The written description sounds pretty good. This thing, though… We may not be Dutch, but we’re sure we’re just as upset about it as they are.

8. Bread and Onions

Feel like going back to the basics? Then you can’t beat this piece of bread with a few sad slices of red onion from a Hungarian soccer stadium.

We feel like should make fun of it, but looking at this thing is honestly just making us kind of sad.

At least it won’t break your bank. You can enjoy this exquisite meal for less than a dollar.

9. A Cheesy Panini(?)

Maybe it’s just us, but a cheesy panini doesn’t sound very exciting. That said, there’s something to be said for biting into a warm sandwich with plenty of melted cheese.

Except when they forget the cheese.

We’re not really sure what to say here. What is this, a cheesy panini for the lactose intolerant?

Screw it, where’s that red onion?
