- Have you seen your state yet? There's only one article after this one, so if not, it's coming!
Here are more of the weirdest law of each state. Which weird law do you think has been to most strange so far?
Virginia
In the state of Virginia, it’s not legal to hunt on Sundays, that is, unless you’re hunting raccoons. The law states that you cannot “hunt or kill any wild bird or wild animal, including any nuisance species” on Sundays.
Connecticut
All the way up until 2002, it was illegal to store town records in locations that
sold liquor in Connecticut. There is no real reason for this law.
Rhode Island
You could face up to 20 years in prison if you “put out an eye, slit the nose, ear, or lip, or cut off, bite off, or disable any limb or member of another.” Do you think this is the weirdest law on the list?
Vermont
It’s illegal to prohibit clotheslines in this state. The law does not allow regulations that forbid “clotheslines, or other energy devices based on renewable resources.”
Montana
In Montana, live entertainment must stay on stage while performing. An entertainer in Billings, Montana, requires you to remain on stage throughout the duration of your performance. The law says “no entertainer or performer whether male or female shall be permitted to leave such platform or area while entertaining or performing.”
California
State law says that a person is allowed to possess any number of live frogs for frog-jumping contests, but if a frog dies or is killed, “it must be destroyed as soon as possible, and may not be eaten or otherwise used for any purpose.” This is a pretty strange and the weirdest law of California.
Ohio
In Grand Rapids, Ohio, “the owner or keeper of any member of a species of the animal kingdom that escapes from the owner’s or keeper’s custody or control and that is not indigenous to this State or presents a risk of serious physical harm to persons or property” must report the escape to the authorities within one hour.
Arizona
You cannot spit on a public sidewalk, crosswalk, highway, park or public building.
South Carolina
South Carolina once had a law that said a man was guilty of a misdemeanor if he seduced an unmarried woman with use of “deception and promise of marriage.” The law was later repealed in 2016, so it cannot be considered the weirdest law of the state.
Delaware
You cannot sell your artificial limbs in this state. It’s illegal for pawnbrokers to “take or receive as a pledge or pawn any artificial limbs or wheelchairs.”
Pennsylvania
One of the odd laws of the state is that you cannot sell your child. Yes, the law actually says that “a person is guilty of a misdemeanor of the first degree if he deals in humanity, by trading, bartering, buying, selling, or dealing in infant children.” You know, in case you didn’t already know this. Yike.
New Jersey
New Jersey has a law about wearing a bulletproof vest while committing murder. And it’s that you can’t. It’s considered a third-degree crime to wear a body vest while “engaged in the commission of, or an attempt to commit, or flight after committing or attempting to commit murder, manslaughter, robbery, sexual assault, burglary, kidnapping, criminal escape or assault.”
