It is now official that there are certain occupations that are not welcome in New York gambling. According to the New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC), athletes, coaches, and players are among a few individuals that have been banned from taking part in any gambling activity within the city’s gambling facilities.
The decree comes weeks after uncertainty surrounding the occupations that were subjected to the commission for approval or ban. After days of intense debate, the NYSGC released a detailed report citing who will and who will not participate in any form of gambling.
Gambling is Picking Up
Following the release of the occupations that are banned from taking part in any form of gambling in the city and state in general, many gamblers have started to move to nearby states to quench their gambling thirst.
Still, others have opted to stay indoors but take part in gambling from friendly betting sites that are from other states. The number of New York betting sites together with their various regulations is listed here.
When releasing the report, the commission warned that nobody working in the occupations mention should try to cheat online betting sites’ owners on their profession. “We’ll know you and if found culpable, you will face the full wrath of the law,” said the statement.
Loads of Professions are Affected
While the list initially had a few occupations, the latest adjusted list comprises even more professions, thus adding a pinch of salt to the injury. The latest members to be added to the list that were not in the initial list. They include team owners as well as various sports agents who for a long time have enjoyed the monopoly in betting land-based betting halls and online casinos.
Even with the announcement of who should and who shouldn’t dare gamble online, sports betting is yet to kick off in the city. For now, what the commission is trying to do is to set ground rules on how things should run when the right time comes.
Majority Have Access
With the launch taking place a few weeks from now, it is good to know that only a limited number will be prohibited. In fact, a few occupations have been asked to back off from the sports betting.
Otherwise, a majority of other occupations will still take part in New York City sports betting just the same way they have been taking part in the betting or like other cities that do not have stringent restrictions.
According to the NYSGC, these professions and occupations are labeled ‘Part 5239: Sports Betting and Wagering Inside Casino Lounges as Well as Other Casino Locations Accessed by The Public.’
When defining the people in the prohibited occupations, NYSGC said, “These prohibited bettors refer to entities or persons whose form of participation is likely to undermine may deduce or even undermine mobile sports betting integrity on an event or even the whole conduct of the event itself.”
After that candid description of what the people from these banned occupations are likely to cause to the betting company or to the game itself, NYSGC went ahead to name the occupations one after another.
The list contains:
- Players
- Athletes
- Coaches
- Physicians attached to various teams
- Trainers
- Referees
- Employees who work with the sports’ governing body
Further, the city’s gaming commission said that although much transparency and integrity has come from banning these professions, it will achieve even more sanity by extending the list.
As such, the commission sat and after several days of intense deliberations, it came out with an additional number of professions and occupations that are not welcome in any of the city’s gambling and betting sites.
The added occupations include:
- Agents who work in various sports and or work in behalf of individual sportsmen and sportswomen
- Employees working under a certain team, club, sporting organization or even people who work directly under sports personalities such as under an athlete, boxer, or even a rally driver
- Club owners
- Contractors working under a certain team as long as they are independent
- Umpire union
- Player’s union and its members
- Officials of the sports betting governing body (if the teams, individuals and unions they are betting on are under their jurisdiction)
- Contractors working for or under the sports betting governing body that oversees the sports and betting events in the region that its members are interested in placing their odds
With this in-depth report on the banned occupations, it is evident that NYSGC is ready to ensure credibility and integrity in online sports betting within its territory. Now, it is no lie that the number of sports betting activities will be strictly limited to those deserving in New York City.
Although the move is seen as a deliberate effort by the NYCGC to sanitize online sports betting, The Langham New York Hotel and other hotels in the state continue to record a limited number of guests. This is happening at a time of the year when festivities are expected to be spiking.
When Will Sports Betting Be Launched In New York?
After releasing the number of occupations that are banned from taking part in online sports betting, it is almost certain that the next thing people want to know is when sports betting will be launched.
Sadly, nobody knows the answer to that question. Hitherto, either the NYSGC or the governing body has the answer to that question that many eligible gamblers are now calling a ‘million-dollar question.’
Although nobody knows for sure the D-day, the fact is that it will be soon. What is more, rumor has it that a number of new sportsbooks are showing up for the first time to the state. Whether that is true or not, a majority will know of that, once the official announcement has been made.
