12 Weird Rules From Love is Blind: Part Two

  • If you didn't think the first 12 were weird enough.

Have you read 12 Weird Rules From Love is Blind: Part One? Because this is part two.

10 Days of Love

The men and women date for 10 days, which is the first of three steps, and lasts for 10 days. From there, if they get engaged, they meet and go on a honeymoon for a week to continue to build their connection, emotional and physical. The last few weeks the couple lives together in the real world while planning their wedding to each other.

Separate Living Conditions

The men and women live separately from one another. Because they cannot see each other during the initial process, cast members live with their own sex and have a different team of producers, too.

Sorority/Fraternity Feels

Apparently, the whole living with a bunch of others around your age has lots of college feels to it. “Life at the facility felt like a sorority,” season 1 cast member Lauren Speed said. “You’d think that people would be catty because some people would like the same guy. But we actually formed a sisterhood, no lie.” Season 1 cast member Kenny Barnes has said the guys did plank competitions, cooked together, went for runs, and more.

Sucky for Sleeping

Apparently, the sleep situation wasn’t ideal. “We slept in trailers and they were correctional facility beds. The design was to just strip us down from our comfort level,” Kenny shared. They also only get about four hours of sleep a night. Yike.

Activities are Encouraged

Even with the strange circumstances, cast members are encouraged to “create” dates that they would want to go on in the real world. “They’d say, ‘I’d love to have a dinner of lasagna with this person.’ So, we’d get them some lasagna!” Coelen recalled. Some liked to play board games while others may entertain with a ukulele.

Awkwardness is Expected

It’s gonna feel pretty weird to “date” from behind a wall, in a room, by yourself. But this is what you get yourself into when you come on Love is Blind. “Oh man, it was uncomfortable for a little bit,” Jessica said. “After a couple of days in there and after you’ve asked a certain amount of questions, you’re kind of like, All right, here we go. What’s the next set of questions?” Mark Anthony Cuevas added.

Proposals Can Happen at Any Time

Within that first 10 days, some couples feel as if they have found the one, and others don’t need more time. Cast members can propose whenever they feel ready and it will start the rest of the processes that very next day.

Picky Casting

The producers really do try to weed out the people that are truly ready for the challenge of marriage and wanting a long-term relationship. “There’s a lot of good shows out there where people can find love, but it’s not really that serious. We wanted people who are genuine about it,” Coelen. Though the show has been critiqued over inclusion issues like their typical cast member is beautiful, fit and in their 20s or 30s.

 No Kissing and Telling

At least not to the public. Post show, couples have to hide their relationship status. The first season was on Netflix as of February 2020 but was filmed back in 2018. That means over a year of keeping your relationship status close-lipped.

Same City Only

This is huge when it comes to any kind of love reality tv shows because let’s be honest, relationships are hard enough much less long-distance or having to uproot your life and move. The first season was in Atlanta, the second in Chicago, and this third season was in Dallas. “It’s too difficult if you’re from Tampa and they’re from Portland, that just throws another wrench in. We wanted to give them a real shot at making their love and their marriage work,” Coelen said.

Legally Binding

The weddings are legally binding, and so are the divorces. “If they choose to get married, yes, it’s a legally binding marriage,” Coelen confirmed. If the couples don’t stay together, they will legally have to go through the separation process as well.

After Filming, All Bets Are Off

This means if you want to date someone else from the pods, it’s a go. Sometimes it doesn’t work out with the one you thought it would but that doesn’t mean you couldn’t make it work out with a former fling.

What is the weirdest Love is Blind rule to you? It’s so on the down low with rules and what to say and what not to that I feel like it would be a really big challenge for most of us.
