- Have you ever wanted a job so bad you’d commit a felony to get to the interview?
You have to get to your job interview, but you don’t have access to an automobile. How would you solve this dilemma?
Most people would probably call an Uber or perhaps ask a friend or family member for a ride. But not this Indiana woman.
Kasia Shelton from Muncie has been arrested for stealing a vehicle from a local dealership. According to police reports, the 20-year-old used the 2013 Kia Optima to drive to a job interview in Indianapolis.
At a strip club.
When the cops later showed up at Shelton’s door, she seemed confused and thought the officers were pulling off some kind of a joke. She genuinely didn’t seem to understand what she was getting arrested for.
After all, she returned the Kia to the dealership once she was done with her trip. She didn’t plan to keep it, so what’s the big deal?
Never mind the fact somebody did genuinely steal the car after Shelton “dropped it off” — and left the keys in the ignition.
Despite now comprehending why, Shelton has now been arrested and is potentially looking at some jail time.

Mystery Phone Calls
The auto theft happened on Monday, October 9, according to Fox 59. On the day, Shelton arrived at RDI Motors in Muncie and asked an employee to see a certain 2013 Kia Optima.
He showed the car to Shelton and we can only assume he talked in length about its great condition for its age, the features, and the reliability. Or at least, he tried.
The employee later told the police that Shelton seemed interested in the car and asked to take it for a test drive. But while he was talking to her and preparing the car for a drive, the dealership’s telephone kept ringing and ringing.
He said that he had to excuse himself constantly to go pick up the phone, yet there was never anybody on the other end of the line. The last time the phone rang was just as the employee had gotten the car ready for Shelton to take it for a spin.
When he got back from the phone, Shelton and the Kia were gone.
To Indianapolis and Back
The RDI employee immediately called the Muncie Police Department to report that a woman had just stolen a car from the dealership’s lot. The cops then began using the Flock camera surveillance system in an attempt to spot the car.
Lo and behold, they actually found it. Court documents state that the police observed the Kia traveling south from Muncie toward Indianapolis.
A while later, they saw the car again, this time returning to Muncie. After that, the cameras lost the car, but we now know that Shelton drove it back to RDI Motors.
Well, more or less, anyway. She parked the car in the Muncie Mall public lot next door to the dealership and left.
She also left the keys in the ignition. Needless to say, the car disappeared from the parking lot soon enough.
It was eventually recovered in Anderson between Muncie and Indianapolis. But hey — at least RDI got their car back.
Just Borrowing It
But who was it that stole the Kia?
Finding out wasn’t too difficult. The cops said they were able to connect the car to Shelton because she had filled out an online form on RDI Motors’ website
Soon enough, officers knocked on Shelton’s door. But when they asked her to identify herself, she lied and gave the police a different name.
We can only imagine the eye rolls. The cops assured Shelton that they knew who she was and that she had stolen a car.
Shelton disagreed, though. Sure, she had taken the Kia, but that was only to drive to a job interview at a strip club.
We assume it’s a strip club, anyway. We’re not aware of many other places hiring “exotic dancers.”
In any case, Sheldon seemed genuinely baffled that the cops had come to arrest her. She had returned the Kia intact and never meant to keep it, so no harm was done. Right?
When asked if she knew the Kia had been re-stolen, Shelton said yes. How did she know that?
Well, according to her own words, she saw the vehicle on “some bitch’s Snapchat.”
Whether she understood the reason why or not, Shelton was arrested. She has been charged with auto theft and identity deception, which are both felonies and could land her in jail for up to two and a half years.
You can’t help but wonder, though — did she get the job?
