Who is the distracted boyfriend? He's part of an image that launched a million memes, and no one's more surprised by the photo's popularity than the man who took it.
Antonio Guillem, 45, is a photographer from Barcelona, Spain who shoots images specifically destined for stock image companies. He works mostly with the same three models, although he parted ways with one of them a year or so ago.
Unfortunately for Guillem, the image's popularity won't translate into cash—not directly anyway. It has been used without purchasing the proper license. Still, he's pleased so many people can see his work. He said, “I never thought that one of my images would be that popular. I didn't even know what a meme was until recently...I think the image was a good foundation to whoever had the great idea to turn it into a metaphor that works for almost everything."
