- The first submarine used in battle was built in Old Saybrook. Called “The Turtle,” David Bushnell created it in 1775 so that they could attach explosive charges to ships in harbor against the Royal Navy throughout the American Revolutionary War.
- The first constitution in the United States was written in Connecticut. This is
the reason the state has the nickname “The Constitution State.” - Connecticut was also home to the first nuclear submarine built, the USS Nautilus in 1954. The sub was retired in 1980 but not before setting records while traveling under the Arctic ice cap.

- The first speed limit law in the United States was passed in Connecticut. The state began a maximum speed limit of 12 mph. At the time, there were less than 6,000 cars driving around on American roads. Can you imagine?
- Connecticut is ranked as #2 with the largest income inequality, coming in second after New York, the city with the largest gap between the rich and the poor.

- Old Saybrook was the place that built the first submarine used in battle.
- There was a point in time when Connecticut had two state capitals and it was between 1701 and 1874. The two state capitals were New Haven and Hartford though the assembly always met in Hartford.

- The secret society known as Skull and Bones is in New Haven, Connecticut and was founded in 1832. It’s associated with Yale University and has had members from influential leaders to U.S. presidents.
- As of 2021, Connecticut had the highest per capita income of all 50 states at $52,034.00.
- The first Subway in The United States was in Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1875 and it was known as the “Bee Line.” The Bee Line connected the downtown to the waterfront but it only lasted six months. (As it was just the beginning of the future of future urban transportation.)
- The Charter Oak is famous for hiding the Royal Charter in 1687 from the British but it fell during an 1856 storm. The tree’s legacy will always live on for the state.
- The frisbee was a toy that was invented at Yale
University. Students at Yale began to throw around Frisbie Pie Company’s pie tines and it eventually led to the creation of the classic flying frisbee, as we know it today.
