  • Your butt is the largest muscle in your body. The gluteus maximus helps you keep your body upright, move at your hips and thighs and to work against gravity when you’re walking up stairs or a hill.
  • Crazy as it sounds, we’re the same hairiness as chimpanzees when it comes to each square inch. Our hair, however, is much finer, making it harder to see and creating less volume overall.
  • The was you sit affects your memory. When it comes to sitting and looking downward, it’s easier to recall negative memories, whereas sitting upright and looking upward makes it easier to recall positive and empowering memories.
  • The tongue is the only muscle in the human body that doesn’t connect two bones together. Every other muscle joins bones on both ends, so that that they can pull and create motion. Your tongue is connected to the hyoid bone, a part of your neck, but doesn’t connect to anything on the other side.
  • Big eyes cause nearsightedness, though the bigger the better when it comes to eyes. When you have big eyes, it’s known as myopia and it’s a condition that makes distant objects look blurry and is caused because the light cannot properly reach the retina.
  • You cannot tickle yourself because the area in the back of your brain that monitors movement (the cerebellum) predicts the way it would feel if you tickled yourself and counters the response you would have if it were someone else touching you.
  • We, as humans, glow. We literally emit visible light. The thing is, it’s about 1,000 times less intense than the levels the human eye can spot and therefore, not visible. This glow as it were, rises and falls throughout the day, with the least of it at about 10am and the highest glow at approximately 4pm.
  • When you blink, it not only keeps your eyes moist and keeps dust out of them, but it also helps to sharpen our attentions and give our bodies time to recharge.
  • Your hair can help the environment, in the way that dirty hair is good for the atmosphere. That being said, know this. Hair absorbs ozone and scalp oils were found to be a big part of that.
  • Our hair shows a sleep and wake cycle thanks to the “clock genes” from our cell-rich hair follicles. If you sleep in or get up early, your hair will show it.
  • Our fingernails grow faster now than they used to. A study compared the growth of fingernails and toenails showing that it increased by almost a quarter over decades 50 and 70 years earlier. According to researchers, we have higher protein diets to thank for this.
  • Roller coasters can literally toss your organs around. The thing is, these rides can actually go fast enough to toss your brain. Heart, eyes blood vessels and other internal organs around. As long as you don’t have any preexisting conditions, the most a ride will do is make your stomach feel a little shaky. (Get it, shaky? If not, nauseous, you will feel nauseous.)
  • Stomach acid can dissolve razor blades. The effects of gastric juice on metal objects was done and found that over the span of 24 hours, stomach acid reduced razor blades to 63% of their original weight.
