- Let the best horse win...
Whether it be Quinze’s dominant display to win by 14 lengths in 1999, Cloone River’s hat-trick clinching ride in 2004, or Rebel Fitz’s thrilling win in 2012 – there’s no denying that the Galway Hurdle has produced its fair share of unbridled theatre over the years.

With this year’s race just around the corner, the strong field of horses have the opportunity to create their own little slice of history at Ballybrit. Just like seemingly every Galway Hurdle, 2022’s instalment is a Galway races betting tipsters’ nightmare, with so many in-form horses proving incredibly hard to beat.
While it was difficult to narrow down which horses one should keep an eye on, let’s take a look at what entries have pundits excited – along with those demanding money at the bookies.
Adamantly Chosen
Pegged as the favorite in the weeks leading up to the storied race, largely in part due to his impressive performance in his most recent outing at Punchestown, the Willie Mullins-trained horse has shown continual improvement since his debut in the Goffs Land Rover Bumper. The five-year-old’s rapid development was no more evident than in his emphatic win at Thurles earlier this year, where he blitzed the field to win comfortably by 27 lengths.
In spite of the fact that many in the know are high on his chances to win at Galway, the 6/1 odds on offer are quite slim and could hardly be considered a value bet given the talented opposition.
Embittered
Whenever there is an Aidan or Joseph O’Brien-trained horse competing – irrespective of their odds – they attract plenty of interest from experts and punters alike. Although inconsistency has plagued the veteran horse, which includes a less than stellar outing in the same race last year, don’t be surprised if the eight-year-old features as one of the threats down the stretch.
Coming off the back of a promising performance at Punchestown and a well-earned rest subsequent to that, trainer Joseph O’Brien will be hopeful of a showing reminiscent of the one he put forth when finishing third in the County Hurdle in 2020. The 33/1 shot will be sure to grab the attention of those in search of a Galway races betting tips outsider.
Echoes in Rain
Finishing just off the pace to Dame Rapide and Honeysuckle at the Curragh and Punchestown respectively, six-year-old Echoes in Rain could pose a danger to some of the top-weight specials if she manages to settle into the two-mile race. That’s a big ‘if’ however, as her unpredictable and quirky temperament has left both experts and fans of the sport oftentimes scratching their heads. Her more peculiar runs have frequently come when racing amongst smaller fields – therefore, some are hopeful that a larger number of entries and an experienced jockey aboard the mare could bring the best out of her on one of racing’s biggest stages.
HMS Seahorse
This 8/1 Paul Nolan-trained horse is expected to demand plenty of betting money late and could very well end up the favorite come race day. The powerful four-year-old was sublime in his win on the flat at the Curragh last month, besting nearest runner Phoenix Mercury by more than six lengths. Half the battle of winning elite level races such as the Galway Hurdle is peaking at the right time, and there’s no doubting that Nolan will have his colt primed and ready for a big performance.
