Adolf Hitler Won the Election in Namibia

  • He promises that he’s an ok guy, though, so there’s that.

“As a child I saw it as a totally normal name,” Adolf Hitler Uunona said. He was given the name by his father.

The southwest African country Namibia has a new leader, and his name is Adolf Hitler. He did go out of his way to let everyone know that he has no plans to take over the world.

Adolf Hitler is a part of Namibia’s South West Africa People’s Organization (SWAPO) party. On Wednesday, Adolf Hitler Uunona was sworn in as the councilor of the Ompundja constituency.

The country’s election was November 27th, in which Uunona won 1,196 votes over his opponent Abner Mumbala of the Independent Patriots for Change party.

Ompundja is in Namibia’s northern Oshana Region and was formerly a German colony from 1884 to 1915. A name like “Adolf” would not have been uncommon.

Uunnona shared that his father picked the unorthodox name for him and that he was likely unaware of the infamous Adolf Hitler and his role in history.

“As a child I saw it as a totally normal name,” Uunona said, “It wasn’t until I was growing up that I realized this man wanted to subjugate the whole world. I have nothing to do with any of these things.”

His wife calls him Adolf, and he commonly went by Adolf Uunona in public. Hitler remains his middle name on any and all official documents that he has, making it far too much work to change it.

Because of his name, of course, Uunona’s win quickly went viral. In this year of 2020, a man taking office by the name of “Adolf Hitler” is just something you cannot, not, talk about and share.

Remember, he said that he didn’t want to take over the world. So, we’re good, right? We’re also just about through 2020, and who isn’t hoping for a better 2021?
