- After the car crashed and the police looked into the car, they found a dog in place of a person.
Police found a “very sweet” pit bull at the wheel of a 1996 Buick that had crashed. The unidentified man, 51, is now facing several charges including DUI, reckless driving, hit-and-run and felony eluding.
The man from Lakewood, Washington, hit two other cars before speeding off Interstate 5. But what the cop saw, well, I guess it explains what happened next.
The pit bull was seen in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, with the owner handling the wheel from the passenger seat. The car hit speeds of 109 mph while even driving along a popular walking and biking trail that was thankfully empty at the time.
It took spike strips to put a stop to the escalating situation, but once questioned, this is what the man told police.

According to the unidentified Washington man, he was “trying to teach his dog how to drive.”
Washington State Patrol officer Heather Axtman said. “I wish I could make this up. I’ve been a trooper for almost 12 years and wow, I’ve never heard this excuse. I’ve been in a lot of high speed chases, I’ve stopped a lot of cars, and never have I gotten an excuse that they were teaching their dog how to drive.”
The officer described the pit bull as a “very sweet girl,” but they did have to take her to the local animal shelter. Poor girl.
The owner was later released on an $8,500 bond.
