1The single dad spending Valentine's Day with his six-year-old daughter left an emotional note by strangers
A single father spending Valentine's Day with his daughter was left a tear-jerking handwritten note by two strangers. The note, which has since gone viral, praised the dad as being a good role model for his six-year-old daughter.
The anonymous message read: "Hi there, Sorry to spy but my husband and I saw you out with your little date and were so impressed with what a great dad you are. From two adults who grew up without dads, it's so important to have a male role model at a young age. Keep up the good work dad! Dinner is on us!"
A picture of the note was posted on the social media site Imgur, with the headline "I wish I could thank them." Beneath it, the poster wrote: "As a single dad, I took my six-year-old daughter out to Valentine's dinner tonight when this happened. I won't lie, I teared up at the table. So, thank you random strangers. Thank you."
Since then, hundreds of people have posted positive messages of support on the site.
2The helpful person who drew a map to the nearest free ATM on a pay-for cash point
A good Samaritan is helping Glasgow residents avoid having to pay to withdraw money after he or she scribbled a map to the nearest free ATMs on a pay-for cash point.
The cash machine, which is built into the side of Charing Cross station in Glasgow, Scotland, charges users £1.99 ($3) to withdraw money.
Thanks to a graffiti map (complete with arrows and time estimates) scrawled on the machine, customers are taking a short detour to a free cash point and saving themselves the money.
The map has been up for three weeks and it is not yet certain if or when it will be removed.
A picture tweeted by Mr. Kirkwood with the comment "Absolute genius. #peoplemakeglasgow" has been shared over 1,100 times and favorited more than 950 times.
3The man who wrote note telling on "cheating wife" after catching her sexting next to oblivious husband
Some of you may argue that this is not a good act, but if it was me, I would like to know.
In 2014, a Michigan man named Lyle was at a Detroit Lions game when he spotted a heavily pregnant woman in front of him sending romantic text messages to another man while sitting next to her partner. Her partner was clearly suspicious and trying to catch a glimpse of the woman's phone.
On a Facebook post which has since gone viral, Lyle said the woman “who looked about eight months pregnant” was texting “I wish I was with you all day” and “I will see you as soon as I am done with him” to a man named Jason.
So Lyle decided to tell the man his wife was cheating. He wrote out a note saying what he'd witnessed to the man at the end of the game.
While some see him as a good Samaritan, Lyle has faced criticism from people who say he had no right to get involved in the strangers' relationship, and that he was putting the woman and her unborn baby at risk if the man is abusive.
Lyle says he was motivated to intervene after the woman made a snide remark about the size of her partner's manhood. When another spectator complained that the portion of fries was too small, the woman fired back “It's okay, I'm (used) to small things.”
4The good Samaritan who left a note for a man who left his car lights on
There are few things more frustrating than coming back to your car after a long day and finding you've left your lights the whole time you were gone, and your battery is now drained. Well thankfully a University of Alberta student, Derek Murray, avoided the frustration thanks to a good Samaritan who not only left charger cables when he/she realized the headlights had been left on, but complete instructions on how to start it up.
The kind act, which took place in Edmonton, Canada, in 2014, stirred Redditors to effusive praise.
5The man who returned a teenager's wallet with added cash and some heartwarming advice
Not only did an anonymous do-gooder return a teenager's lost wallet, he added some extra cash and left a heart-warming note to boot.
In 2014, Cristhian Reyes had been at the opening game of the season for the Miami Marlins baseball team in Florida when he realized his pocket was empty.
Just a few days later, a man turned up at his high school to return the wallet with an extra $20 and a note telling Reyes to pass on the good deed in future.
"I added $20 to it so you know the world is a great place," he wrote. "Do me a favor and, when you get the chance, do something nice for someone else."
The good Samaritan found Reyes using the student ID he discovered in the wallet and left it at the school's front desk.
6The stranger who handed a mom a note and $7 for teaching her son good manners
A stranger handed over a note and a fiver to a mum because her son was well behaved.
Plymouth resident Sammie Welch, 23, was branded a credit to her generation as she traveled on a train with her three-year-old son, Rylan.
The young mom was given the note by a man who wrote: "Have a drink on me, you're a credit to your generation, polite and teaching the little boy good manners. P.S., I have a daughter your age, someone did the same for her once. Hope when she has children she is as good a mother as you." Enclosed was a £5 ($7.80) note which Sammie has since put in a savings account for Rylan.
The mother-of-one was attempting to entertain Rylan during the busy service and said she was simply playing with him as he ate his dinner. After his dinner Rylan fell asleep, sprawled across his mum and another seat. When another passenger came to sit down Sammie quickly moved Rylan on to her lap, insisting the man took the seat rather than stand.
Shortly after, the unknown admirer handed Sammie the note before disappearing into the rush to get off the train.
7The girl who sent a message to heaven to her dead father and got a response
Ever since Ashlynn Marracino's father passed away from a brain aneurysm in 2010, she has been honoring his birthday with a special tradition. Each year, she writes him a message on the side of a balloon and releases it into the sky. She thinks it's her best chance to reach him from a distance.
In 2015, something incredible happened– she heard back.
The day after she sent her airborne message, the balloon landed more than 400 miles away in Auburn, California — not exactly heaven, but there were some modern-day angels there. The balloon was foundoutside of a restaurant aptly named Local Heroes. Lisa Swisely, the restaurant owner, searched for the now 16-year-old girl on Facebook — and found her. Swisely posted on a Pay It Forward Facebook pag asking people in her community to send cards and gifts so she could put together a care package for Marracino. By the time it reached Marracino, it was filled with love from people who care.
8The Samaritan who left a note on a woman's Mini with the registration number of truck he saw scraping her car and driving away
In March 2014, Natalie-Jane Davey started an internet campaign to "Find Lee," the good Samaritan who left a note on her Mini with the registration number of a truck he saw scraping her car and driving away.
Davey returned to her car after parking it in Richmond, London on a Friday afternoon to find the note on her windscreen. An anonymous passerby, who gave his name only as Lee, said someone had scratched her white Mini and drove off, but he had taken down their registration number so she would be able to trace them.
Lee left word that a scaffolding truck had scraped her car along the petrol cap.
However, police told Ms. Davey that without the eyewitness' formal statement, officers would be unable to prosecute the truck driver, prompting her to post a picture of the note on Facebook in an attempt to find him.
The photograph was shared 45,564 times and liked by 10,468 people, and the campaign moved to Twitter with the hashtag #findlee.
Davey eventually found Lee. He turned out to be Lee Harris, 25, of Greenford. He works both in security in Kingston and as part of a management team for Download Festival.
9The stranger who paid for someone's baggage fee at an airport and left a note behind
An anonymously note written garnered attention after a man identified as "Andy"posted it to Reddit, in an attempt to describe an act of generosity that took place in the Tampa International Airport.
During a trip in 2013, Andy was asked to pay a mandatory baggage fee. After handing attempting to pay with his credit card, he was told his card had been declined. Embarrassed and upset, Andy stepped away from the counter to call his bank and double-check his balance.
Upon returning to the baggage counter, Andy found a note left for him on the back of a receipt. His fee had been paid by a stranger. He was overwhelmed by the kind act and decided to post the photo to thank the anonymous giver.
10The man who who gave a stranger free tires and left an anonymous note stating where to pick them up
It's amazing how a story of a simple act
– replacing a man's worn tires – can remind us of the power of unsolicited generosity. An image posted by Reddit user "womp0982" to the r/pics subreddit in 2012, shows a typed note that was left on a truck. The message reads:
‘You do not know me but I saw that you needed some tires for your truck and I wanted to do something nice for a stranger because one day a stranger did something nice for me. The receipt is in the envelope and all you have to do is go by Warehouse Tire on 3rd Street and ask for Steven Hodges and they will be put on for free. All I ask is that one day you do something nice for a complete stranger."
The picture, which was viewed more than 940,000 times on image sharing site Imgur, also shows a bit of the receipt.
As usual, Redditors were split on the veracity of the post. But a call to Warehouse Tire & Battery Sales revealed there indeed was a Steven Hodges working there. He confirmed that an order of tires had been placed, although he also said he thought the man and the good Samaritan might know each other.
