Titanic Fun Facts: The Most Infamous Ship Wreck In History

  • Would you go on the Titanic II?

These Titanic fun facts may surprise you and some of the facts aren’t that fun. Nevertheless, the fascination over the ship, the wreck and the whole story is in most of us.

The Change

Cameron was made aware that the star scene Rose saw wouldn’t have been visible in that place and time. Therefore, the view was digitally altered for accuracy, making the scene more lifelike.

Chinese Mystery

The survivors Lee Bing, Fang Lang, Chang Chip, Ah Lam, Chung Foo, and Ling Hee were part of a group of eight sailors reassigned from Britian to a North American route. Five of the men escaped to lifeboats and the last clung to debris long enough for help to arrive. However, due to the Chinese Exclusion Act, the anti-immigration law, the six men were unable to get off in New York like the rest of those rescued by the Carpathia and were instead put onto a cargo ship to work that was bound for Cuba. No one knew what happened to them until 2020, when James Cameron produced the movie entitled The Six. Do you think this should be on the list of Titanic fun facts?

60,000 Wreck Photos

The first crewed trip down to the wreck snapped around 60,000 photos and took hours of footage. It was found that the iceberg had not caused a huge gash in the ship but instead the seams in that area split, flooding the ship with water. How cool is this as one of the Titanic fun facts?

Class Cabins

For first-class, there were 39 private suites at the top of the ship, complete with two bedrooms and a guest room. Second-class was in a room just below first with two to four beds and a sink and mirror but no private bathroom. The second-class passengers did have access to an outdoor promenade, smoking room and library. As for the third-class, they slept towards the bottom of the ship, with most single men towards the bow of the ship, and single women and family in the stern. There were only two baths for the entire third-class, or just over 700 passengers. This is the saddest of the Titanic fun facts list.

The Icebergs Of April 1912

Icebergs were not uncommon between Ireland and Newfoundland. In a 2014 study done by the Royal Meteorological Society, weather conditions produced more icebergs than normal in April 1912, from the freezing Canadian air meeting the southward flow of the Labrador Current off of Newfoundland. Because of this, a bunch of icebergs were swept further south than what was typical of most of the 20th century. The authors told us, “In 1912, the peak number of icebergs for the year was recorded in April, whereas normally this occurs in May, and there were nearly two and a half times as many icebergs as in an average year.” This may be the craziest of all the Titanic fun facts.

The Oscar Nominations

The blockbuster film Titanic received Oscar nominations in 14 categories as a $2 billion dollar box office hit and Oscar sensation. Leonardo DiCaprio didn’t get a nomination for Best Actor, leading to the Academy receiving over 200 complaints from mad Leo fans.
