- What do you think workers have found after guests have left?
Have you ever worked in a hotel or had hotel finds before? These stories may cause you to think twice.
Messes On Messes
I used to work in a hotel in Jasper, Alberta. One time, these guests who had checked out had absolutely destroyed their room. There were broken wine and beer bottles everywhere. They had purposely crushed chips and cereal into the floor, along with toothpaste all over the walls and furniture.
That was not the worst part, however, because as soon as I looked into the washroom it was evident they had clogged the toilet and decided to use the shower to relieve themselves instead (number 1 and 2). It was so gross. Luckily, I didn’t have to clean it up.
Another time, I was just cleaning up a family’s room when the mother informed me rather proudly that her daughter had just entered womanhood and her sheets needed to be changed.
Upon stripping the bed it was evident that it had gone through all the sheets and stained the mattress. The worst part was they made me flip the mattress over before I put fresh sheets on the bed.
The Guy Called The Pie Guy
We had a guest we ended up calling “Pie Guy” — he would come into the hotel without a reservation, pay in cash and the $100 cash deposit and the next day we would find his bathroom and bathtub full of the remains of several pies.
He never came to the desk for his deposit, as he knew he wouldn’t be getting it back.
We added his name to our “do not rent” list but he kept coming back and using different names. These are quite the hotel finds.
And Then There Was The Stalker
My brother used to do cleaning/maintenance work for the dorm buildings at his university. A water pipe burst in one of the dorm buildings over winter break, so he had to go into a bunch of people’s rooms to box up their stuff and check for water damage.
One of the rooms he had to enter was absolutely wallpapered with photos of a female student. There were hundreds of weird candid shots taken of her around campus, sitting in class, eating in the dining hall, etc, printed out on printer paper and stuck up all over the walls.
A university staff member had unlocked the door for him, and when they realized what they were looking at, she told him to leave and re-locked the room. My brother never found out what was going on, but he was called back to do final cleaning of that same room, then totally empty, a couple of weeks later. Whoever was living there had left the dorm or been kicked out.
Not exactly hotel finds but you get the picture.
The Sex Stash
There was one guy who came in every week or two, used the same room for three or four hours and left. We didn’t do hourly rates, so he always paid the full price of the room.
No one ever accompanied him, and no one asked for his room while he was there. The next day, maids would find nothing unusual.
Finally, after a new manager came in, the hotel got its first thorough cleaning in far too long. So we were going through and moving beds and credenzas, checking ceiling tiles etc. We got to the same room he’s been using.
Under the bed we found a massive stash of adult content. Everything was sticky and obviously used. The maids used double gloves to dispose of everything.
He only returned once more before he disappeared forever. And there will be no more hotel finds from him.
Everything Gross Everywhere
I’m an ex-hotel housekeeper who is ready to tell the story of why I quit.
It was a regular day with a slightly smaller workload, so I was in a good mood. I had 12 rooms that day. Normally I’d have 16.
When I got to my last room, excited to be so close to finishing for the day, I opened the door only to be greeted by a grotesque display of everything that is considered repulsive and dangerous to touch. Bodily fluids, illegal paraphernalia, cigarette butts, and tons of trash.
Then the bathroom. There was urine everywhere and more blood. There was vomit in the tub, and on the ceiling.
