“My sister and her husband were on this cruise as well. Basically, because of the way the ship was tilting, it was causing sewage to leak out of the walls. In
some of the hallways and cabins the smell was so bad that you could hardly breathe. Luckily, my sister and her husband had a balcony suite on the “good” side of the boat and them, and 4 more of their friends, were all able to sleep in their room. The 3 guys slept on the balcony, and the girls shared the bed.
It was miserable conditions but she said that people tried to make the best of the situation. They had someone playing the piano every now and then and they would sing songs, they played cards, and they would use stuff on the ship to keep themselves entertained. Basically, almost anything was free game. People tore off decorative rope from the deck to make the tent city you see. Doors were ripped off of their hinges to walk across sewage and make “rooms” in the tent city. She said it was crazy and she would never want to do it again but, they made the best of a really bad situation!”
“Had a promenade view room on the mariner of the seas. Outside our windows were speakers that piped the music into the promenade. From our room all we could hear all day and night was the thump of the bass. Couldn’t sleep. Awful. Never get a promenade view room.” This may not be the worst cruise experiences but it is a bummer.
“First time on Monarch of the Seas. When we cruise I like to get a room way towards the front or way towards the back cause it’s hard to get lost and there aren’t people walking and talking in front of your room all night. Got an ocean view room, happened to be the first one in the front.
First morning, woke up to the sound of the world ending. Probably one of the most violent sounds I’ve ever heard in my life. Had no idea what was going on, about had a heart attack. Later we discovered that directly next to that room was the little hole in the side of the ship where the anchor chains come out.
We started setting alarms to get outta there in the mornings before we figured the ship would be docking. I don’t think I’ve ever been on another cruise where I was up so early every morning.” This would rate up there with one of the worst cruise experiences you could have, getting woken up every day and in that way.
“A man died on a snorkel excursion we took on our honeymoon cruise. We
were on Honeymoon Beach on St. John and I guess he had a heart attack and they were doing chest compressions for a solid 40 minutes or more. The ambulance arrived but there are no hospitals on the island so there was nothing that could be done. The captain of our catamaran corralled everybody back onto the boat and left the man on the beach with a towel over his face. The man’s family stayed behind, I suppose they were going to airlift his body away.
It was supposed to be a drinking and party ride back, but the mood was very somber. No one really felt like laughing after that.
While it was super sad/scary for us, I can’t imagine being a member of that man’s family. I hope they have found a sense of peace.”
“Just took a cruise out for Galveston beginning of Oct. skirted around the edge of hurricane michael almost the entire time. The boat never stopped rocking. Almost all the shows were canceled, people were all sick. It was bad.”
