- In case you need them, they're good to know.
Hopefully you’ll never find yourself in any of these deadly situations. But, here are some necessary survival facts you should know.
In the case of an alligator..

You should run. And run as fast as you can. There is a myth you may hear in Florida that states to avoid an alligator, you should run in a zigzag pattern. Alligators top speed is about 25 miles an hour, however, they can only sprint quickly, so they would defensively rush you rather than hunting you. Hence the best advice of run, and run fast!
If you need to build a fire..
Don’t use rocks near a body of water. The rocks could explode due to trapped moisture within the rock that rapidly evaporates when placed next to a hot fire. Sudden expansion can lead to dangerous explosions. This is one of the very best necessary survival facts.
If you ever sink your car into water..
Escape as soon as you possibly can! If you’re waiting for the car to fill and the pressure equalization process, you could end up 20 feet under the water’s surface. This means a lot longer holding your breath and a lot longer swimming back up.
If you have no food..
Dandelions are completely edible from the stems to the flower. It’s not the yummiest of snacks that nature has to offer and has next to no nutrients or taste, but in true emergency, they can be eaten in full. This could sustain you in a survival situation, and who knows, maybe you will like them?
In you fall off a ship into the water..
Float and don’t swim. Of course, your first instinct is to swim towards the ship, but that takes a lot of energy. Conserve your energy instead and float.
If the heat is too much..
If you feel too hot from heat exposure, poor cold water or place ice, if you have
some, onto your forearms. Your veins are closest to the skin on your forearms so pouring an ice cold liquid or placing ice on your forearms will cool your blood quickly and cool you down.
If there’s bees or wasps..
People like to jump into the water to avoid bees and wasps but this isn’t the best idea. It’s true, as soon as you enter the water, the insects will lose your scent. But did you know that when you emerge from the water, that they will pick up your scent again? Oh ya, they will also continue to try and track you while under water. The best idea is to run as fast and as far as you can from them.
If you get lost..
Don’t wander around trying to find your way. It’s natural to do so but if you think you’re lost, you will naturally panic as well. Rather than trying to unlose yourself, stay in one spot and you’re far more likely to be found by a search party.
If you’re stuck in your car in a snow storm..
Don’t leave your car, and don’t leave your car running. This is one of the best necessary survival facts if you live in a (sometimes) snowy climate. The best thing to do is to stay in your car but don’t let the car run. Your car will be warmer than outside and at least out of the elements. Because of the snow, your exhaust could become blocked leading exhaust fumes into your car, so make sure you turn it off!
If you’re in a cave..
Don’t build a fire in a cave to stay warm. The heat from a fire could lead to expansion in the moisture trapped in the cave rocks. When this happens, the cave ceiling and walls could break meaning that the entire cave could collapse and possibly crush or trap you
If you’re pierced with something sharp..
Don’t try to pull it out! We see it in media all the time, the main character is stabbed deeply, and they pull it out, and all is fine. But in real life, it doesn’t turn out like the. The lodged object, though damaging, is holding your blood in and if you take the object out, it could lead to sudden and severe blood loss.
