Who doesn’t love pancakes? And the toppings? Mmmmmm.
Plus, there are some for every diet. Keto and Paleo pancakes are made out of almond flour, you can make gluten-free pancakes out of a gluten-free mix, and you can even make pancakes out of just two ingredients, bananas and eggs. (Don’t believe me, try it!)
But as much as we love the pancakes, we go goo goo for the toppings. And these toppings are the sweetest, sugary-est, and most indulgent toppings yet. The may be weird, and they may be odd, but you cannot say that some of these aren’t amazing. You already want to try some.
Nut Butter and Jelly
Peanut butter and jelly is indulgent in itself, and on pancakes, it’s crazy indulgent. And the combinations are endless. Peanut butter and strawberry jelly, almond butter and raspberry jam, and sun butter and orange marmalade, just to name a few.
Nut Butter and Honey
And honeyyyyyyyy. You have to try honey as a pancake topping. Do it with any nut butter and the natural sweetness and creamy combination will be sweet yet salty. Add a sprinkle of cinnamon and dig in.
Raisins, Apples, and Peanut Butter
It’s like “Ants on a Log” but with apples, and pancakes. (And none of that yucky celery, HA.) If these pancakes don’t bring you back to your childhood, nothing will.
Peanut Butter and Chocolate
Ok, ok. I know, enough peanut butter. This is the last one. Melt peanut butter and chocolate together and drizzle it over your pancakes. Or roll up your pancakes and dip them in your chocolate and peanut butter “sauce.” No matter what, chocolate and peanut butter.
Coconut, Chocolate, and Pecans
Melt chocolate and sprinkle with broken pecans and coconut shreds. It’s like an Almond Joy bar but melty and covering a pancake.
Marshmallows, Graham Crackers, and Chocolate
Yup, s’mores pancakes. Break up the graham crackers and add broken chocolate, and mini marshmallows right to the batter. Then cook your pancakes and add some more of the toppings to the top. S’mores pancakes for life.
Vanilla Ice Cream and Sprinkles
And add some vanilla extract to your pancake batter, before topping cooked and browned pancakes with ice cream and sprinkles. And make sure to use rainbow sprinkles, because they’re really fun. You could also go with jimmies, because chocolate and vanilla are the best together.
Lemon Curd and Raspberry Puree
It’s like lemonade with raspberries, all added to pancakes. The lemon curd has a tartness and the raspberry has a sweetness, together they are the perfect toppings to rich, and fluffy pancakes.
Or the makings of it. Add oats, peanut butter, chocolate, and a splash of vanilla extract and mix it all together. Then top your pancakes and eat up. It’s all the love of the chocolate bar, packed onto a pancake.
Mashed Pumpkin, Cinnamon, and Nutmeg with Whipped Cream
If this isn’t the best time for pumpkin foods than no time is. This is pumpkin pie on a pancake so if you’re a pumpkin lover, and more so a pumpkin pie lover, these pancakes are for you.
Powdered Sugar, Chocolate, and Whipped Cream
If you think of a pancake as an elephant ear (fried dough from the fair,) than topping it with powdered sugar, chocolate, and whipped cream seems normal. However, if you think of it as an energy sustaining, healthy breakfast option, than these toppings are pretty much ludicrous. (But who cares? Do it anyhow.)
Chocolate and Caramel Syrup
Just pretend your pancake is an ice cream sundae. Drizzle the syrups all over the top and chow down.
Cookies and Whipped Cream
Now this is what pancakes are all about. Break up your favorite cookies and crumble them over the top of your pancakes. You could even drizzle chocolate syrup or add some mini chocolate chips to make this a chocoholic, and cookie, dream come true.
Minced Apples, Crushed Peanuts, and Caramel Sauce
Caramel apples anyone? It is Fall, after all. This is too good. Start with pancakes, and add the apple and nut, and then drizzle caramel to your heart’s content. *Be Right back, making Minced Apples, Crushed Peanuts, and Caramel Sauce Pancakes*
Cinnamon Roll Pancakes
To be extra indulgent, first top your pancake with butter. Then add a vanilla glaze, like you would on top of your cinnamon rolls. Be sure to sprinkle cinnamon on top for looks, and delicious taste, of course. If you love cinnamon, because who doesn’t, add it to the batter, too, so that your pancakes are oozing cinnamon flavor. (I always add cinnamon and vanilla extract to my pancakes for extra flavor.) Yum.
Vanilla Ice Cream and Berries
What’s better than a berry sundae? Putting it on top of a pancake, of course! Take one scoop of vanilla ice cream and top it with your favorite berries, fresh or frozen.
Peaches and Whipped Cream
And for this simple addition, well simply delicious, peaches and whipped cream. For color and another flavor level, sprinkle on cinnamon, too. You will love these.
Ok, so these are the most indulgent, sweet, and simply delicious pancake toppings of all. Which is your favorite? Or which do you have to try really soon?
