Bizarre Advertising around the World

Advertising can be creative and even purposely funny. But the following ads really stand out as being strange, original or just plain bizarre.

1Helium balloons tied to a model’s skirt (Germany)

Braun Silk-Epil Epilators are best known as razors which give women silky smooth legs for up to four weeks.To inform the public of the product without using traditional advertising, helium balloons were tied to a model’s skirt, leaving only her legs exposed as she walked around the mall. The Braun branding was written on the balloons. While, as you can see in the picture, it is a little creepy looking, it definitely appeared to be entertaining and, apparently, effective. Traffic to the store increased around 25%.

2Playboy Beach Towel (Argentina)

This new campaign from Playboy in Argentina featured a Beach Towel in the form of the magazine itself.

3You’ll never sleep alone (Belgium)

Merchandising idea for Che Men’s Magazine cross-media campaign, a real duvet and two pillow covers, so that you never sleep alone.

4World First Aid Day (Canada)

This advertisment was placed in Toronto for World First Aid Day, depicting a woman lying on the floor, as if unconscious and very realistic!

5Delivery boy on your door’s hole (Peru)

6Sexy Sun Protectors (Argentina)

Paparazzi Magazine in Argentina ordered these sun protectors from Publicis Graffiti to promote nightclubs of Buenos Aires. The sun protectors where placed in all the cars at the clubs parking, so that paparazzi couldn’t take pictures of what’s going inside. Girls on the pictures are famous in Argentina.

8A police car, hiding behind a billboard (Turkey)

From a distance you will see a police car, hiding behind a billboard, what police in Turkey typically does. What do you do? You slow down and slowly drive to the billboard text – “Pay your traffic tickets on time without waiting in line –”

9Dental implants as Bowling pins (Germany)

This advertisment is for Dental implant insurance and shows bowling pins as teeth.

10A Real edible billboard made with 860 pounds of chocolate (UK)

The website “Nothing to do with Arbroath” shares a unique way of promoting a chocolate makers wares, a real edible billboard made with 860 pounds of chocolate.The Easter creation, a world first, was made of 10 chocolate bunnies, 72 giant chocolate eggs and 128 chocolate panels, each weighing 2kg.The billboard took three months to plan and 300 hours for the team of 10 to build and was expected to last a week but alas was devoured by Londoners in less than three hours.

117-Eleven turned into Simpsons’ Kwik-E-Marts (USA)

7-Eleven has gone all Simpsons for a month long in-store and online promotion tied to “The Simpsons Movie,” which opens in theaters on July 27.The campaign launched on July 1 as 7-Eleven turned 12 of its’ stores around the US and Canada into Kwik-E-Marts, the convenience store chain of the cartoon family’s fictional Springfield, USA hometown.

Advertising promoting hand-washing. The sign on the doorknob says: “You washed. This guy didn’t.” or “92% of guys say they washed. 34% were lying.”
