  1.     Stop Showering So Much

It’s not uncommon for men to shower twice a day – or even three times when circumstances allow for it. For example, you might shower in the morning before work, immediately after your workout at noon, and then again prior to going out to dinner with your spouse. 

Unfortunately, this isn’t kind to your face. Hot water dries out skin and strips it of its natural oil barrier (which is needed to help trap moisture and keep skin healthy and smooth).

For starters, you should try to limit yourself to one shower per day. And if there’s a day where you don’t really do a whole lot, you can even push your shower to the following morning.  Secondly, dial back the temperature and opt for a warm shower over a hot shower. 

  1.     Wear Sunscreen

Sunscreen isn’t just for the beach or swimming pool. It’s highly recommended that you apply SPF 15 (or higher) on a daily basis. It should be worn on your face and any other area of skin that’s exposed.

Don’t make the mistake of shaving before you shower, which irritates skin and prevents a close shave. The best option is to shave immediately after showering. This allows the steam from your shower to soften up the hairs on your face and make them easier to remove. also recommends using a safety razor, as opposed to a traditional multi-blade razor. These razors provide a closer shave without the risk of tugging and pulling on stray whiskers. While they can take some time to master, they produce a far superior shave in the long run.

  1.     Exfoliate Your Skin

“Exfoliate skin on your face and body once per week,” beauty blogger Kay Ireland recommends. “While you may think that using a scrub is just for women, remember that dead skin cells gather on the surface of your skin, clogging pores and trapping dirt and oil. Opt for a chemical exfoliator for use on your face that contain mild acids, such as alpha hydroxy acid.”

If you’re unsure of which exfoliating product to purchase, ask for some assistance. You want one that’s formulated for your skin type (dry, oily, or sensitive). 

  1.     Avoid Harsh Products

There are a lot of products on the market that look and smell good, but don’t let shiny marketing promos persuade you into purchasing products that are harsh on your skin.

After shaving, you’ll definitely want to apply some sort of product to replenish lost moisture and smooth over any irritation that may occur. Just make sure you’re purchasing an after-shave product that’s alcohol-free. Alcohol dries out the skin and works against you. Instead, opt for a formula containing natural ingredients and gentle oils. 

  1.     Use a Moisturizer

Moisturizing products serve a couple of purposes. Not only do they help you achieve smoother skin today, but they also help prevent wrinkles tomorrow. For best results, apply a gentle moisturizer every day – once in the morning and once in the evening.
