Shakira
Colombian artist is proud to learn that her name is the most searched Latin artist on Google globally of all time. How cool is that? If you don’t know anything else from Shakira, you must know Hips Don’t Lie. And if you don’t look it up and listen because that is Classic Shakira.
Jason Aldean
Last year in 2023, Aldean performed to a near capacity crowd to close out the year. He also said, “You guys have probably seen I’ve been in the news,” regarding the lyrics of his song “Cuss out a cop, spit in his face / Stomp on the flag and light it up / Yeah, ya think you’re tough / Well, try that in a small town / See how far ya make it down the road / Around here, we take care of our own / You cross that line, it won’t take long / For you to find out, I recommend you don’t / Try that in a small town,” Aldean sings in “Small Town.” About this he said, “In the past 24 hours I have been accused of releasing a pro-lynching song (a song that has been out since May) and was subject to the comparison that I (direct quote) was not too pleased with the nationwide BLM protests. These references are not only meritless, but dangerous,” Aldean said in part in a tweet. “There is not a single lyric in the song that references race or points to it- and there isn’t a single video clip that isn’t real news footage.”
Joe Jonas
Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner filed for divorce early 2023, stating that their marriage was “irretrievably broken.” In March, Turner requested to “reactivate” divorce proceedings and it’s continued into this year. In October of last year, the two reached a temporary custody agreement after mediation for their children and then a trial date was set to determine custody of the kids. There was a lot that happened after that and it’s still happening but that’s the reason that Joe Jonas was googled so much last year.
Smash Mouth
Smash Mouth was a popular 90s alternative band but they’re still around today. The founder and former Smash Mouth frontman died on September 4th, 2023, with a variety of health issues including cardiomyopathy, heart disease and liver failure. In 2021, the band replaced their lead singer with Zach Goode. They said this about their former lead singer, “Steve Harwell was a true American Original. A larger than life character who shot up into the sky like a Roman candle. Steve should be remembered for his unwavering focus and impassioned determination to reach the heights of pop stardom.”
Peppino di Capri
This popular singer was honored at the 73rd edition of the Sanremo Festival and presented with the “Città di Sanremo” Lifetime Achievement Award. Di Capri was an opening act for the Beatles and in a band called the New Rockers. Di Capri is the performer with the most appearances at the Sanremo Festival with a total of 15.
