- How cool is the main picture with the "glowing" river?
Have you ever been to the Grand Canyon? It’s unlike almost anything else in the United States and here are a bunch of fun facts to prove it!
- One of six rattlesnake species lives inside the park. There’s a Grand Canyon pink rattlesnake that is only found within the park’s boundaries.

- You can still see the work of architectural pioneer Mary Elizabeth Jane Colter’s work at the Grand Canyon. From Phantom Ranch to the Desert View Watchtower, she purposely constructed buildings that would blend with the environment, not stick out of it.
- There’s a skeleton crew that lives at the North Rim during the winter season. Residents move their vehicles to Jacob Lake once the snow comes and use snowmobiles to get around.
- Any events that you want to have at the Grand Canyon, you pretty much can. With eight outdoor locations and on indoors, plus lodges, you can plan a party, a get together or even a birthday party there if you want to.
- You can listen to the Park Ranger Audio Tour by calling 928-225-2907. There are 30 stops along and near the South Rim and they are all indicated by a sign. It’s as easy as calling the number, tap where you’re at and listen to a couple of minutes about your immediate surroundings. (If you want to listen to it from home you can, but of course, the best is to listen to it from the location.)

- The Grand Canyon has a K-12 school district, the only national park to have one. The first elementary school was established in 1911.
- There are two suspension bridges over the Colorado River. The Kaibab Trail Suspension Bridge, also known as the “Black Bridge,” is between Navajo Bridge, to the east and Hoover Dam, to the west.
- You can see “Grand Canyon: Hidden Secrets,” by visiting the Imax Theater in Tusayan. This 34-minute film shows up to 10 times a day.
- About 250 people must be rescued from inside the Grand Canyon each year.
- It’s called the Grand Canyon and it is, for the United States. Around the world you can find Tibet’s Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon, a full 2 miles deeper and 30 miles longer than the one here in the U.S.
- You have to drive five miles from the South Rim’s front gate to the Rim itself and to the Grand Canyon Village, to reach the hotels and services of the Grand Canyon.
- If you’re riding on the Disneyland Railroad in California,
you’ll travel along the South Rim via a 306-foot-long diorama, making it California’s own Grand Canyon, if you will. It was the longest of its kind when it opened in 1958. - The Grand Canyon’s North Rim has only about 500,000 visitors a year, due to the remoteness of its location.
- The U.S. Postal Service destroyed 100 million Grand Canyon stamps in 1999. The stamps indicated that the Canyon was in Colorado.
- A Las Vegas family was declared Grand Canyon’s 6 millionth guests in December 2017. However, a year-end audit revealed the park received 5.96 million visitors. Opps.

- There’s a more than 60 year old pipe that runs from the Colorado River to the South Rim, supplying the area’s water.
- You can rent a two-person cabin at Phantom Ranch for $155.00 a night, group cabins for $267 a night and a dorm bed for $53 a night.
