Gaming PC Saves Woman from Being Shot in the Head (by Neighbor’s Dog)

  • It’s a good thing she’s a gamer or she might be dead.

Has anyone ever told you that your high-end PC is a waste of money? The next time someone does, you can quote this story to prove that your expensive gaming rig might one day save your life.

At least if your neighbor happens to have a trigger-happy dog.

A Wisconsin woman recently had a freak experience that could’ve easily cost her life. In the middle of the night, she woke up to a loud bang and a shower of broken glass.

Her PC on the desk next to her bed was a mess with shattered panels and a big hole through the motherboard. The woman initially thought her gaming setup had somehow exploded, but then her neighbor knocked on her door.

The terrified neighbor said that her dog had accidentally discharged a firearm, sending a bullet through the woman’s window. And indeed, attending police officers found the spent projectile.

It was right under the woman’s pillow. Had it not been for the PC, it may have hit the woman right in the head.

The neighbor has now been charged with negligence, but our hero doesn’t bear a grudge against her. She has said that she’ll pay for any damage that insurance won’t cover, and the two are planning to go get margaritas together.

What a way to make a friend.

Shocking Wake-up

This strange story was told by a Reddit user going by the name of angelbabyzz. You might doubt an online tale’s veracity, but the pictures of shot-through PC components are pretty convincing.

Angelbabyzz recalled that around 3:30 a.m., she woke up to a very loud bang. Simultaneously, shards of glass rained down on her.

She can count herself lucky that she didn’t get cut in the face. Soon, however, she would realize how lucky she had really been.

In the haze of having just been jolted awake, she tried to figure out just what had happened. Then she noticed her expensive gaming PC on the desk next to her bed.

The PC’s glass side panel had shattered. One of the RAM sticks was bent, and there was a weird hole through the motherboard.

The woman thought that a freak power surge had caused her PC to explode. But right then, a knock came from her door, and the situation got even freakier.

Sharpshooting Pooch

Knocking on the woman’s door was her neighbor. According to angelbabyzz, she was “a complete mess, sobbing and shaking and terrified that she had hurt someone.”

Why would she think she’d hurt someone? Well, it turned out that the PC hadn’t exploded.

Instead, it was shot. By the neighbor’s dog.

The neighbor stated that her dog, a very fat little Jack Russell terrier, had accidentally set off her gun. The puppy had put the bullet straight through the neighbor’s window, the woman’s window, and the PC case.

It’s good thing that the PC was there, though. As police arrived at the scene, they quickly discovered the deformed remnants of the bullet – under the woman’s pillow.

The police stated that the PC case has altered the bullet’s trajectory. Had it not been for the gaming rig, the bullet might’ve instead lodged itself in the sleeping woman’s skull.

‘Not Even a Bad Neighbor’

No, not the RAM…

Now, you shouldn’t keep your firearms loaded and out of a gun safe in an area where animals (or anyone else, for that matter) can get to them. Consequently, angelbabyzz stated that her neighbor has been charged with criminal negligence.

Additionally, her firearm has been confiscated. At least she won’t have to worry about another canine assassination attempt.

She does, however, have to worry about getting a new PC. And that’s a tall order in the current market, where the AI boom has sent the prices for RAM and other components through the roof.

Fortunately, the neighbor appears to be genuinely apologetic. Her insurance company will likely cover the damages and cleanup, but if they don’t, the neighbor has said she’ll pay for anything left over.

And that’s enough for angelbabyzz. She posted that she’s just happy to be alive and believes the neighbor is getting her comeuppance.

“I feel like she is appropriately paying her dues in this situation and won’t be pressing for anything further,” she said.

In fact, since neither of them could sleep on the night of the freak accident, the two ended up chatting and bonding. Now, they’re planning to grab some margaritas together.

“We are planning to go out for a drink together in the near future. I wouldn’t even call her a bad neighbor,” she posted.
