That’s All, Folks!: Loony Toon Sentenced to 20 Years After Violent Police Chase

  • He may have a funny name, but his actions were a lot less humorous.

It’s over for Loony Toon. He has received a lengthy prison sentence for leading police officers on a car chase during which he fired on them.

Nothing in the previous paragraphs is a joke. Sometimes reality just aligns perfectly to make it for us at Oddee to do our jobs.

A man called Loony Toon was recently sentenced to jail for a part he played in a traffic stop that turned violent. After being stopped by the police, the 43-year-old sped off in a car with burst rear tires.

During his escape attempt, he fired his handgun at the chasing police officers. After crashing his vehicle at a golf course, he ran away, only to be arrested later at a different location.

Now, he has pleaded guilty to an impressive list of felony charges. Consequently, Toon can expect to spend the next two decades behind bars.

Not a Born Loony

At the center of these bizarre events is a man with a bizarre name: Loony Toon. However, he wasn’t always Loony, or Toon for that matter.

The 43-year-old man from Oregon was born as John Kolb. At some point in his life, for reasons we couldn’t find out, he decided to change his name to Loony John Franklin Kolb Toon.

But what’s in a name? A Loony by any other name could act just as erratically.

That’s certainly what he did on June 20, 2025. Just before 3 a.m. that day, the police stopped Toon’s car near the city of Milwaukie.

In the car with Toon was an unidentified female passenger. However, she wasn’t who the cops were interested in.

They quickly realized that Toon had an outstanding felony warrant. He was also on probation for an attempted first-degree kidnapping.

Soon after, things really got out of hand.

Car Chase and Gunfire

After the officer realized who Toon was, he called for backup. Another officer placed spike strips behind Toon’s rear tires in order to prevent him from escaping.

Well, Toon didn’t care about that at all. As soon as it dawned on him that he wasn’t going to walk away from this, he decided it was time to make himself scarce.

Toon backed up, running directly over the spikes and shredding his rear tires. It turned out that he didn’t need them, though, as he sped down SR 224 to escape the cops.

Of course, the police followed. Incensed, Toon produced a handgun and fired several shots out of the driver’s side window at the cops chasing after him. Luckily, he didn’t hit anyone living, although he damaged some passing cars.

After some 20 miles of dodging (fortuitously sparse) traffic, Toon lost control of his car and crashed. At that point, he hopped out and ran off into the nearby golf course.

Despite their best efforts, the police couldn’t find him, and Toon managed to escape. He couldn’t avoid the long arm of the law for too long.

Three days later, on June 23, Toon was located in Sandy, Oregon, under unspecified conditions. He was arrested and taken into custody.

“This was an incredibly dangerous incident. [Toon] showed callous disregard for every single person in his path … and endangered the lives of four police officers,” Clackamas County deputy district attorney Revecca Wareham Portlock said in a statement.

Off to Prison

Fast-forward to late May 2026, and Toon was facing a long list of felony charges. For the part he played in the car chase, he was charged with four counts of attempted assault in the first degree with a firearm, unlawful use of a firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and escape in the second degree.

As part of a plea deal, Toon pleaded guilty to all outstanding charges against him. He has now been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

In addition, Toon must pay restitution to the City of Milwaukie for damaging a police car, and to the owner of a vehicle damaged by his gunshots.

This latest sentence adds to his already impressive criminal record. According to Clackamas County authorities, Toon previously had 25 criminal convictions, 16 of which are felonies.
