- This case puts a whole new twist on the saying ‘drop-dead gorgeous.’
All chatbots and LLMs should have safeguards in place that prevent people from using them for anything illegal. Sadly, their safety measures often fall regrettably short.
This case of a gorgeous South Korean killer is a morbid example of that.
A young woman identified only by her last name, Kim, stands accused of murder. The 22-year-old allegedly poisoned several men, some of whom died, with alcoholic drinks laced with sedatives.
After her arrest, the police discovered that she had used ChatGPT to plan the killings. She had made several queries about sleeping pills and alcohol, framing her questions as a concerned medication user to circumvent security controls.
A psychological test ranked Kim as a psychopath. Yet, she has received support from people who might need to get their heads checked as well.
Pictures of Kim leaked online during the investigation, revealing that she is, frankly, a very beautiful young woman. Consequently, some social media users have been calling for her to receive a lighter sentence or even be let off scot-free.
Test Victim
According to police reports, Kim’s first attempted murder took place in December 2025. At the time, she reportedly gave her then-boyfriend a drink laced with benzodiazepine, a sedative commonly used to treat conditions like anxiety and seizures.
In high doses, benzodiazepines (or “benzos,” as they’re popularly called) cause dangerous side effects, such as low blood pressure, confusion, and slowed breathing. These effects may be severe enough to kill a person.
Fortunately for Kim’s ex-boyfriend, she didn’t give him enough of the drugs to kill him. He survived the experience — and Kim learned that she needed to study her chosen murder weapon more.
For information, she allegedly turned to ChatGPT. Later investigations found that she asked the popular LLM multiple questions about benzos, such as “What happens if you take sleeping pills with alcohol?”, “How many do you need to take for it to be dangerous?”, and “Could it kill someone?”
As written, all of these questions could be posed by somebody who’s concerned about a medication they’re taking. The chatbot probably thought it was helping a medical patient and supplied the answers.
She would soon put what she learned to use.
Caught on Camera
Kim reportedly carried out her first murder on January 28. The police state that she went to a motel in Seoul’s Gangbuk District with a man in his 20s.
Two hours later, Kim left the motel alone. The man was discovered dead in the same room the following day.
On February 9, Kim repeated her operation by taking another young man to a different motel, also in Gangbuk. Her companion died again.
In both cases, an autopsy showed that the men had high doses of benzos in their systems. Suspecting foul play, the police decided to check the security camera footage at both motels.
They revealed that Kim hadn’t been particularly careful. The videos showed her entering the motel rooms with the men and leaving alone.
Certified Psychopath
On February 11, Kim was arrested. She soon admitted to giving sedatives and alcohol to the men, but she insisted that she didn’t know it could kill them.
It was just for a bit of fun, you know?
However, an investigation of Kim’s online activity revealed her ChatGPT searches. As such, the police claim that she must have been “fully aware that consuming alcohol together with drugs could result in death,” reported the BBC.
Due to the premeditated nature of the killings, the police put Kim through a psychological evaluation. On the test probing for possible psychopathic personality disorder, Kim received a whopping 40 points.
Just 25 points is enough to indicate psychopathy.
Too Pretty for Jail
Well, this seems like a clear-cut murder. However, while prosecutors were preparing the case against Kim, the events took another disturbing turn.
The police had decided not to reveal Kim’s full identity. That led to furor online, both from the public and the victims’ families.
“Why is the news focusing on the identities of the dead victims instead of revealing who the killer is?” one family asked in a public statement, according to the South China Morning Post.
Eventually, online sleuths determined who Kim was and leaked photos from her social media accounts. They, however, probably had the opposite effect from what the victims’ families wanted.
It turns out that Kim is an attractive young woman. Her good looks have garnered some support from social media users.
Comments on posts revealing her face have stated that she is simply too beautiful to go to jail. As such, some people have stated that she should get a light to no sentence.
“I could fix her,” the comments have quipped. Some have stated that they would not hesitate to go for a drink with Kim, despite knowing the risks.
And they say looks don’t matter.
