12 Of The Wildest Feats Of Climbing People Have Attempted

  • Why stay on the ground when you can climb high into the sky?

Have you heard of all these 12 wildest feats of climbing by people? Illegal or not, they could die but they just have to try!

1. Mount Everest, Oxygen-Free

Climbing Everest is already brutal and without supplemental oxygen, next to impossible. At that altitude, your body is beginning to slowly shut down, your judgment is wrecked and every step feels like your lifting tons. A very small handful of people have pulled it off and every single one ends up a medical miracle wrapped in frostbite.

2. The Eiffel Tower (Illegally)

People have free-soloed the Eiffel Tower using bare hands, backpacks and nothing more than vibes.T hey didn’t have a harness either, or permission. There are tourists who watch from below as someone is literally committing more than one crime all while dangling hundreds of feet above the city of Paris.

3. Free Solo at El Capitan

Alex Honnold climbing El Capitan rope-free is still one of the most brain-melting achievements from a human being. One slip would have meant instant death. The climb takes hours, requires gymnastic precision and the the wall is so tall it has its own weather patterns. Do you think this is one of the wildest feats of climbing?

  1. Climbing Skyscrapers Using Suction Cups

Urban climbers have scaled glass skyscrapers using suction cups, gloves, or sometimes just friction and faith and their own hands and feet. These buildings are designed specifically not to be climbed and things like wind gusts, smooth glass, and security chasing you could really mess up your climb.

5. Active Volcano Climbs

Does it shock you to know that people really do climb active volcanoes? These crazy climbers deal with obstacles like lava, toxic gases, collapsing rock, and sudden explosions. Some climbers have made it to rims that later erupted but they sure prove that humans are deeply committed to ignoring warning signs and trying crazy climbs, anyway. Would you call this one of the wildest feats of climbing?

6. Over 350 Feet Tall Redwood Trees

Professional arborists and adventurers have climbed redwoods, the tallest trees in the world. Imagine swaying hundreds of feet above the forest floor on branches that are alive, flexible, and not remotely designed for humans. (And wanting to climb all the way up?! Crazy.)

7. Construction Cranes

Construction cranes and city climbers have one thing in common, the climbers want to try climbing to the top of the crane. Cranes are narrow, unstable and typically hundreds of feet high with nothing but open air around you. Don’t step wrong, it could be the end for you.

8. The Great Pyramid of Giza

People used to climb it freely and some still try, though it isn’t legal. Those massive stone blocks were never supposed to be stairs. Between the heat and the height, it’s one wild ascent.

9. Radio Towers

Climbers have scaled radio towers so tall they disappear once they make it above the clouds. Some of these structures emit radiation as well, meaning climbers are risking being cooked while hanging in the sky. Also, the ladders go on forever and make mere humans wonder how mentally exhausting and physically terrifying it all really is.

10. Natural Rock Spires the Width of a Dining Table

Spire climbs like Trango Towers or Totem Pole involve ascending needle-thin rock columns where there’s barely space to stand at the top. You climb for days just to find yourself in a place where you simply can’t relax without fear of falling, or actually falling.

11. Icebergs

People have climbed floating icebergs. If you didn’t know, icebergs are extra tricky as they can crack, flip and collapse at anytime. And the water surrounding them is so cold, it can kill you in just minutes. Climbing is tough enough, but now you’re climbing something that could drown you in some way, at anytime. Do you think this is one of the wildest feats of climbing?

12. Buildings on Fire

People have climbed burning structures from the outside in rescue or dangerous situations. Between the smoke, heat, collapsing debris, and zero visibility, there simply is no time for errors.
