- Unless you have some of your own to share with us all!
These fun post-Thanksgiving traditions have been around for years but why not add them to the tail end of your holiday? Or tell us about your own after holiday traditions.
Stuffing Waffles
Making waffles out of stuffing to be the basis of a Thanksgiving dinner sandwich has become popular and it makes sense why. You start with stuffing waffle “bread”, add turkey, potatoes and cranberries to your sandwich, or whatever leftovers you like, and of course make a side of gravy to dip your sandwich into.
Flaming Turkey Toss
Have you ever heard of a flaming turkey toss as a fun post Thanksgiving traditions? A dressed turkey is tied to a chain, doused in flammable fluid, set on fire and hurled into a field. Could be a fun activity or you could even turn it into a competition.
Mashed Potato Pizza
Another popular way to eat any lingering Thanksgiving day foods is to make a mashed potato pizza. Just mix some flour with your mashed potatoes for the crust and add gravy as sauce, stuffing, turkey and cranberries as toppings, and some cheese if you need that to make it a pizza!pe
Turkey Bowling
There is a way to play with your turkeys post holiday, that is, if y’all didn’t eat it. So, have you ever turkey bowled? The idea is to Set up soda bottles as pins and roll a frozen turkey at them to knock them down. (There is also a version of ice bowling that I myself, my brother and the neighborhood kids played where we were the “turkeys” and slide ourselves into the pins (which were the rest of the kids. Dangerous but fun HA.) Would you like to try this as one of the fun post Thanksgiving traditions.
Turkey Calling Competition
People who want to participate in turkey calling use their skills to see who can make the most accurate of turkey sounds. (Do you think they YouTubed it first because this Wisconsin girl couldn’t even tell you what turkeys sound like or how they talk to each other.)
Black Friday
The younger generations of today will never know Black Friday as it was, at the height of cabbage patch dolls back in the 80s to Tickle Me Elmo and Furbies, the fights and the money spent. Wow. Now we have black Friday sales that start weeks before Black Friday, no lines at the stores and no one going for coffee at midnight on Thanksgiving as the stores opened for the morning after.
Pardoning The Turkey
The tradition of the President pardoning a turkey started under President George H.W. Bush. It has become tradition and is celebrated and carried out every year. This is not the most fun post Thanksgiving traditions, do you think?
Unthanksgiving Day
Alcatraz island has a yearly Unthanksgiving Day and the history of Thanksgiving is acknowledged. “Unthanksgiving Day” commemorates the 1969-1971 occupation of the island by “Indians of All Tribes”and is also officially called Indigenous Peoples’ Thanksgiving Sunrise Gathering. It honors the resistance to colonialism faced by Indigenous peoples and includes sunrise ceremonies, traditional dances, and speeches about Indigenous rights.
