- But that just doesn't seem to be the case.
A South African Woman claimed that she gave birth to ten babies at once, decuplets, and has since been admitted into the hospital for psychiatric evaluation. There is growing speculation that she actually was pregnant with decuplets.
After making headlines for the alleged record-breaking birth, Gosiame Thamara Sithole, 37, was taken to a psychiatric ward last week in Tembisa Hospital in Johannesburg. She was examined there by a medical team.
“The medical evaluation has shown that there was no pregnancy. It also shows that there are no physical scars to indicate a recent C-section,” a source told the outlet.
Refiloe Mokoena, her attorney, said Sithole says that she’s “now being held against her will” at the hospital.
“She declined that she should be taken to the Tembisa Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation because she felt strongly that she is of sound mind,” Mokoena said.
“She then instructed me to accompany her to the Tembisa Hospital. And when we arrived at the hospital, they took her straight to ward 14, the psychiatric ward. They told me that now she was in their custody, they would not be allowing the lawyers and the team of psychologists that she had requested to be present,” Mokoena added.
The hospital visit was a weird turn in this already strange saga, which even involved the babies’ supposed father, Teboga Tsotetsi. He was also calling the children’s existence into question.
“He (Tebego) made several attempts to visit his girlfriend, but she has failed to disclose her whereabouts and the condition of her babies,” a statement from his family said.
His statement read:
“The current uncertainties and public discourse about the decuplets is of major concern to the family,” the statement read, “especially in the absence of any proof of the decuplets existence other than telephonic and whatsapp messages from the mother.”
“The family has resolved and concluded that there are no decuplets born between Tebogo Tsotetsi and Gosiame Sithole, until proven otherwise and wishes to apologize for any inconvenience and embarrassment,” they added.
No record of the babies birth is on record according to the local health officials. Though several of Sithole’s relatives have claimed and maintained that she did recently give birth to the brood to officially break the record.
