Two-Year-Old’s Cake Reads, ‘Happy Birthday, Loser’

  • But it wasn't supposed to.

It’s not everyday you celebrate your daughter’s second birthday. And every kid’s party needs a birthday cake, but hopefully it’s not one that says ‘loser’ on it.

This happened to a little girl in Missouri. But the fault was really no one’s, as it was an honest mistake.

The bakers who created her birthday cake misheard Meklin Jones, when she called to order the cake. When she called, she asked for the cake to read, “Happy Birthday, Lizard.”

The girl’s name is Elizabeth, and her nickname is lizard. What better name to add to the cake than a family nickname?

When Jones went to pick up the cake for her daughter, she was in a hurry, and left before looking at the cake. And once she did, she was surprised at what she saw.

When she did look at the cake, she was very surprised at what it said. “I was a little shocked, but after a few seconds, I couldn’t stop laughing,” Jones said.  “I had no clue they got it wrong. I was in a hurry, and it seemed like a simple enough request. I wasn’t really expecting anything to be wrong with it.”

Jones laughed, took a picture of Elizabeth with the cake, and posted it to Facebook. Anyone who sees this cake will laugh and know something was not right. But little Elizabeth? Well, she cannot read yet, anyhow.

The picture was taken a year ago, but Jones didn’t want anyone to get into trouble, so she waited to post it just so people would have a few good laughs. But it didn’t ruin Elizabeth’s party at all.

Jones returned to the store after consuming the ‘loser’ cake. “[My husband and I] proudly ate that ‘loser’ cake, then [I] marched right back to Walmart a few hours later and got another one,” she says. “I didn’t mention the misunderstanding because I didn’t want the worker to get in any trouble, so I just picked out a new cake ,and asked for ‘Happy Birthday, Elizabeth’ on it.”

When Elizabeth gets older, her mom plans to tell her, but for now, she just hopes that people get a kick out of it. “A lot of people have reached out to me to tell me it made them laugh harder than they have in a long time, or that they were having a bad day at work until reading it and so on,” she continued. “That’s been the best part of it all, just knowing that people are finding the same type of humor in it that we did.”

Talk about having your cake and eating it, too.  Come on, we had to…
