Do you know these cases when the woman is a killer? The case of Betty Broderick was one for the record books.

Clara Harris, a Texas dentist, ran over her husband and killed him with her Mercedes-Benz in 2002. She did this in a hotel parking lot after finding out he was having an affair. The incident was captured on surveillance video, which showed her repeatedly driving over him and what’s more, it was in front of their daughter. The case stunned the public because of the calculated and public nature of the killing. Harris says she lost control emotionally upon seeing her husband with his mistress. She was convicted of murder and sentenced to prison, however, she was released on parole years later.


Martha Beck and Raymond Fernandez targeted women through personal ads in the United States in the 1940s. They were known as the “lonely heart killers.” Most of their victims were women and their crimes centered around fraudulent romantic relationships and murder for moneye. Beck played an active role in the killings both of them were eventually executed. The sensational nature of their partnership fascinated the public and of course, inspired books and films. Nannie Doss, nicknamed “Giggling Granny,” was in the time period of 1920s–1950s in the United States. Nannie Doss murdered four of her husbands and other family members over several decades. She poisoned them with the idea of collecting insurance money. Doss seemed cheerful and harmless, making her crimes even more disturbing. Her pattern of repeatedly marrying and then killing her husbands has earned her a notorious place in American criminal history.

Susan Wright stabbed her husband nearly 200 times in their Texas home in 2003. After that, she buried him in the backyard. She initially claimed self-defense, alleging long-term abuse. Prosecutors, however, portrayed the killing as premeditated because of the extremely high number of stab wounds and how she tried to hide the body. The case was considered extra sensational because of the  brutality and the courtroom revelations about their troubled marriage.  Did you know this woman was a killer?

Rae Carruth & Cherica Adams were dating in 1999 in the United States and as it turned out, the case is cited and seen as one of the most shocking domestic murder plots. Rae Carruth made a plan to murder his pregnant partner, Cherica Adams, so he could avoid child support responsibilities. Adams was about to survive long enough to identify him before dying. While Carruth did not pull the trigger himself, he was convicted for conspiracy to commit murder.

Betty Broderick killed her ex-husband, Dan Broderick, and his new wife in San Diego in 1989. This  after a bitter and long divorce battle. The case became one of the most infamous “scorned spouse” crimes of America. Betty had supported Dan through medical and law school, but eventually left her for a younger woman. Their once happy relationship turned into years of legal and emotional warfare. In 1989, she broke into his home and shot both him and his new wife while they slept. The case sparked nationwide debate about divorce, mental health, and whether she was a cold-blooded killer or a woman pushed to the edge. It was later dramatized in the TV series Dirty John and several movies were also made. This woman was a killer, did you know?

Chisako Kakehi is known as the “Black Widow of Kyoto,” in Japan in 2013. Chisako Kakehi was convicted of murdering her husband and several other elderly partners, using cyanide to poison them. She targeted wealthy older men, managed to marry them and collected insurance payouts after their deaths. Eventually authorities uncovered this pattern as multiple suspicious deaths were linked to her. The case horrified Japan due to its calculated financial motive and the betrayal of trust involved.
