Earth is under attack! Well, it’s not, but it could be.
Pentagon receives hundreds of reports of UFO activity every month. While the vast majority of those cases are not related to aliens, it might be a smart idea to think where you would go to survive a possible extraterrestrial invasion.
Fortunately, we now know. The folks over at GigaCalculator conducted a study to evaluate which U.S. state are the most likely to make it through a possible alien attack, taking into account things like military presence, the number of scientists and caves in the state, and so forth.
We don’t know why a calculator site is researching this stuff. Maybe they’re just worried.
In any case, here are the 10 states ranked the most likely to survive an alien invasion.
10. Georgia (Overall Score: 7.43/10)
You might want to have Georgia on your mind in case aliens begin to pour out of the woodwork. In the tenth place, Georgians seem to be used to alien visitors.
Although the Peach State doesn’t have particularly many UFO sightings, the aliens tend to hang around. The average duration of a UFO sighting in Georgia is nearly 14 minutes, more than twice of most other states in the top 10.
Another point in Georgia’s favor comes from its 17 caves. Additionally, at 0.67%, Georgia has the second-highest forest coverage in the top 10, so you have plenty of places to hide from aliens.
9. Alaska (Overall Score: 7.46/10)
In Alaska, you’ll probably survive because any aliens will quickly be pumped full of lead. Alaska has 31.25 military personnel per 1,000 residents, meaning it has the largest military presence on this list.
In addition, Alaska has the second-highest number of scientists and the third-highest number of engineers. You’ll certainly be with plenty of capable people — if you can find them.
After all, Alaska’s population density is one person per square mile. But hey, that also means the aliens will have trouble finding you.
8. North Carolina (Overall Score: 7.47/10)
North Carolina doesn’t have one stand-out factor going for it. The Tarheel State simply strikes a decent balance between all the evaluated conditions.
Although it has no caves, there’s a good bit of forest for hiding in North Carolina. It has the third-highest military presence, and there are also quite a few engineers and doctors to help you.
Additionally, there are more than 1,000 food and beverage producers in North Carolina. Basically, they just have what you need to coast through the alien invasion.
7. Wisconsin (Overall Score: 7.51/10)
If the aliens have left you hurt or hungry, Wisconsin is a good place to head to. With a third-highest number of doctors and food producers, you will have your basic needs catered to.
That’s partially because Wisconsin has a fairly low population. This means there’ll be plenty of food and care to go around.
6. Florida (Overall Score: 7.55/10)
In Florida, you’ll find a decent number of caves (12 in total) that provide cover. Florida also has the second-highest number of food manufacturers, so you won’t go hungry.
There are also fairly large numbers of military people in Florida, which should help. However, the statistics don’t account for the greatest asset of the Sunshine State.
We are, of course, talking about the wrath of Florida Man. No alien wants to face that.
5. Minnesota (Overall Score: 7.79/10)
Minnesotans will keep things working right, whether it’s your car or your body. Here you’ll find the second-highest number of engineers and doctors per 1,000 people, and there are quite a few scientists too.
Combine that with the second-lowest population density in the top 10, and we have a state where you can find safe, remote places to weather the storm in the company of healthcare and engineering professionals. Go Minnesota.
4. New York (Overall Score: 7.79/10)
Want some food? Head to New York, they have plenty.
New York has the highest number of food producers by far. With a total of 2,748 food and beverage producers, you can feast like a king while the aliens wreak havoc.
Additionally, New York has the highest number of cops in the top 10. They should know how to deal with extraterrestrials, too, since the average UFO encounter in New York lasts for a whopping 10 minutes.
3. Massachusetts (Overall Score: 7.81/10)
What’s in Massachusetts? Well, in addition to okay forest cover, you have doctors.
Lots of doctors.
At 35.12 doctors per 1,000 people, Massachusetts has the most doctors not just in the top 10, but in the entire country. It additionally boasts a ridiculous number of scientists and engineers, both at more than 10 per 1,000 people.
2. Alabama (Overall Score: 7.91/10)
Alabama is very rural, which will be a blessing under alien invasion. With the most forest cover in the top 10, you can slip into the trees and hide.
Additionally, Alabama has the most caves, with 35 in total. Just huddle down and wait until the aliens get bored and leave.
Did your car break down on a forest trail, though? That’s okay, since Alabama has quite a few engineers as well to get it going again.
1. Virginia (Overall Score: 8.06/10)
Here it is — the state most likely to survive an alien attack. Virginia simply is a complete alien-proof package.
You have 29 caves and a good bit of woods for hiding, a high military presence (17 personnel per 1,000 people), a lot of engineers, and decent number of food producers. The number of doctors might be low-ish, but you’re unlikely to get hurt in the first place in Virginia.
Worst Survivor: Nevada (Overall Score: 5.27/10)
You might also be curious about which state will absolutely get wiped off the map. Well, that would be Nevada.
The Silver State simply doesn’t have much going for it. There’s next to no forest, few professionals, and only 295 food producers.
