Jorelys Rivera Murder Case
It was only 3 days after Jorelys Rivera went missing that her body was found
murdered and dumped into a dumpster. It happened December 2010 in Canton, Georgia. Maintenance man Ryan Brun was new at the time and became a suspect even after denying involvement, but he failed his polygraph test and eventually confessed to the murder. The lie detector tests secured his confession and was the end of this case.
Adrian Prout
Adrian Prout was a millionaire at 40-years-old he was convicted of killing his 55-year-old wife Kate. after dumping his wife’s body in a Woodland area, Prout took a lie detector test he failed. According to Prout, after he was questioned he admitted to the validity of the test and told detectives that their test was not wrong. Proud fiancé, Debbie Garlick, attempted to prove his innocence by paying for the lie detector tests but it worked out differently and instead of proving him innocent show that he was guilty. Prout showed no emotion when he admitted to the crime and has been locked away since.
Jeffrey Deskovic
In the case of Jeffrey Deskovic, he was wrongly convicted of raping and murdering a classmate in 1990 after a Kohler’s confession and failing a polygraph test. He spent 16 years in prison before DNA set him free. The office of Justice programs states that this case shows the potential dangers of relying on polygraph test relating to confessions and reminds of the caution of their use.
Susan Smith
The Susan Smith case happened in 1994 when she reported her two young
Sons had been kidnapped due to a carjacking in South Carolina. After taking a polygraph test the results indicated she was lying on the lie detector tests. And post intense scrutiny and additional questioning, she eventually confessed to drowning her kids by driving them into the lake with her car. without this test we may never have known the truth behind her lies.
Joseph Cambron
After investigating the Fatal stabbing of a 12-year-old boy, Louisville Detectives conducted a lie detector test of a suspect on September 30th 2014. Joseph Cambron, 21, failed a lie detector test, showing investigators that he was involved with the death of the youth. He eventually admitted engaging in a physical altercation with the victim, when he was ultimately stabbed to death. Not only that, but detectives also recovered a 7-inch knife utilized in the killing of Ray Allen Etheridge. The autopsy of the body revealed that the boy suffered from two stab wounds, both in his back and chest. During his initial interview, Cameron admitted he was accused of sexually abusing five other youths but since polygraph tests weren’t admissible at trial, he was able to deny knowing who Ray was, playing in his favor.
Heather Teague
It was a simple day of laying on the beach and getting a tan for Heather Teague before she disappeared on August 26th 1995. She was along the Ohio River in Kentucky. Though her disappearance remained unsolved for years without any leads or evidence extensive searches and numerous interviews LED investigators to nothing but dead ends. A surprising lead in 2006 came up when police received a tip about a local man named Marty Dill. He had been a suspect early on but wasn’t charged after lack of evidence. However when he was brought in for questioning he decided to take a lie detector test and the test showed that Jill knew more about Heather’s disappearance then he had originally said. with this he became agitated and ended the interview before police could gather more evidence and took his own life. Heather’s body was never found but the lie detector tests did show some understanding in the case and Dill’s involvement.
David Pietz
David Pietz, 36, was alleged to have murdered his wife in 2006. at the time Nicole was just 32 years old. her naked body was found in the woods near
Burien Washington about a week after she was reported missing. she had been strangled to death and during the trial several women came forward to admit romantic relationships with David Pietz. it was also said that he spiked his wife’s drink with ecstasy and attempt to Have threesomes with her and others. he was put through a lie detector test and failed in the end. when he was asked whether or not he wanted to take a second test he quickly refused. detectives knew he was their man and after the failed polygraph test they kept a close eye on him. he has since been convicted and given a long stay in prison.
