Massachusetts
In this state, you better sing the national anthem correctly. The law reads that if a person “plays, sings or renders the ”Star Spangled Banner” in any public place, theater, motion picture hall, restaurant or cafe, or at any public entertainment, other than as a whole and separate composition or number, without embellishment or addition in the way of national or other melodies” they can face a fine.
The Most Odd Law In Alaska
Legally, if a hunter takes a moose, certain parts of the animal including the head, heart, liver, kidneys, stomach and hide are legally required to be salvaged “for human use.”
Georgia
A proclamation from Gainesville passed in 1961 was designed to promote Gainesville as a poultry center and outlawed eating fried chicken with a fork. The state is so serious that a woman was actually faux-arrested (practical joke) for doing so, but was later pardoned.
Kentucky
No bringing your reptiles to church. You can face a fine of more than $50. Where does this come from? Back in the early 20th century, a few churches started the practice of snake-handling so it’s thought that this most odd law originated from that.
New Mexico
New Mexico law states that “idiots” are ineligible to vote. In 2016, this language was seen are discriminatory as it referred to mentally disabled people and it was finally repealed.
Michigan
According to state law, it’s illegal for a person currently in an “offensive state of intoxication” to “enter or be on or remain upon any railway train or interurban car as a passenger.”
The Most Odd Law In Oregon
In the city of Yamhill, Oregon, it’s “illegal” to practice “occult arts.” Occult arts are defined as fortune telling, astrology, phrenology, palmistry, clairvoyance, mesmerism, spiritualism, or any other practice or practices generally recognized to be unsound and unscientific whereby an attempt or pretense is made.”
Utah
Within this state, it’s illegal to “cause a catastrophe.” The definition of catastrophe being “widespread injury or damage caused by weapons of mass destruction, explosion, fire, flood, avalanche, or building collapse.”
North Carolina
It’s illegal in North Carolina to hold a meeting while wearing a mask, hood, or other costume. Why did this law start? The idea behind it is to crack down on the activities of the Ku Klux Klan.
Minnesota
All the way up until 2015, Minnesota had the most weird law that limited nursing homes and senior centers to just two days a week. Even if you were just visiting a nursing home resident, you are not allowed to play!
