Girl in the Shed: The Kidnapping of Abby Hernandez
Abby Hernandez was walking home from school when she was offered a ride from Nathaniel Kibby. He drove for a while, then passed her destination and eventually pulled over to show her a gun and threaten her life. Kibby took her back to his house and tied her to the bed along with wearing a shock collar around her neck and subjected her to horrific sexual assaults.
He forced her to write a letter to her mom saying that she was ok, but he noticed an “invisible” etching in her letter, came home to yell at her and shocked her with the collar. Eventually, he built her a shed “room” with a bed, lights and some books. Abby gained his trust in the the end, facing other charges, he actually let her go. He was sentenced 45 to 90 years in prison. If only all girl movies went this way.
The Girl in the Box
This crime took place back in the late 70s when Colleen Stan accepted a ride from married couple, Cameron and Janice Hooker. They pulled over for some “ice caves” where he threatened her, blindfolded her, gagged her and locked her head in a box. She was also locked in a coffin type box and only let out by Cameron, at least initially. Cameron had an obsession with bondage and initially beat Colleen and continued a threat of a “The Company” coming to collect his “slave.” Janice and Cameron had a baby that Colleen babysat along with looking after the house and being a slave to any and all of Cameron’s needs.
About five years later, Janice left Cameron and Cameron threw an almost entirely naked Colleen into a pit in the ground. Janice returns, frees Colleen and tells her the truth, there is no company. Colleen returns home, tells the story and Cameron was sentenced to 104 years in prison for what he did.
Girl in the Basement
These girl movies are all awful, horrific and sad but this one, this one you will want to sit down for. The story of the girl in the basement is about Elizabeth Fritzl, called Sara in the movie, and while it doesn’t include all the details about the imprisonment, it contains a lot of them. Sara was held captive by her own father, maliciously raped and beaten, and born seven of his children.
She was locked in the basement for 24 years of her life and it wasn’t until one of the children fell unconscious that Josef, the dad, agreed to take her to the emergency room for treatment that Elizabeth was able to get help. She was 42 years old. Josef was sentenced to life in prison.
