People and Their Weird Body Language

  • Do you do any of these body language things when you're in conversation?

Do you know what these weird body language signals mean? They could come in handy.

Crossed Legs

If someone crosses their legs toward you, it means they have trust in you and they like you. This shows comfort, ease and openness to their ideas. If someone crosses their legs away from you, on the other hand, it’s a way of creating distance and that you aren’t on the same page as one another.  Do you engage in this weird body language?

Slouching

It’s pretty clear that most people who slouch are insecure and have low self-esteem. Feeling anxious or unmotivated makes us naturally want to curl up, hide and shrink away from the world. Also, slouching allows us to look smaller but in turn hurts our confidence and keeps us in our negative feelings. Ask someone if you can help or offer encouragement to a slouching friend. A smile and something nice can really go a long way in helping others!

Clearly Negative

If you’ve ever squeezed your eyes shut or pushed your fingertips into your temples, than you’ve shown clearly negative weird body language. Other gestures such as pinching the bridge of your nose are common and used as a way to signal disapproval. These gestures are a natural instinct in the way that we are trying to “block” whatever is being said to us.

Outright Defiance

Has someone ever jutted their chin out at you, in a straight out defiance kind of way? You see this kind of body language in confrontational situations when one person is trying to assert dominance over another. Sticking your chin out gives the illusions of taller, which can feel intimidating. This can show that someone is not backing down, that they will stand their ground. Other the other side, this can be seen as aggressive and hostile.

Hugs

Some people don’t like hugs and some can’t get enough. If you hug someone, and they’re simultaneously hugging and patting you, this could be a sign of anxiety and discomfort. This creates a bit of distance and can signal that the person being hugged isn’t the happiest about it. Try to ask people if they want a hug rather than just going in for one. Some people really prefer their 3-foot-bubble. Do you love hugs or do you give off weird body language when it comes to them?

Moving Your Eyes

Have you ever been in the middle of a tough conversation and the person you’re talking to looks down at their feet or maybe you noticed you did? This shows feelings of fear, guilt, and sometimes submission and that you’re not a threat and you don’t want a confrontation. Do you usually look away when you’re feeling scared? This is also a common weird body language behavior.

Crossing Your Arms

Crossed arms during a conversation are not a sign of a good conversation. To cross your arms shows that you’re closed off and protecting yourself by creating a physical barrier.

Rubbing Your Hands Together

This could mean you’re excited or even ready to get down to business, you know, like work. It’s kind of like the action of the saying “roll up your sleeves.” Rubbing your hands together gets your body and mind ready to go.
