Ronald L. Shanabarger was angry that his girlfriend refused to cut a vacation short to comfort him after his father died.
Shanabarger began planning his revenge on his girlfriend during his own father's funeral.
He continued to date his girlfriend, proposed to her, married her and impregnated her. He then gave her seven months to bond with her new son before smothering him in his crib.
The death was ruled a case of SIDS but Shanabarger admitted to his wife that, in fact, he had murdered the boy to get even with her.
