absenta
(Reader Contribution to

in XIXth century years and early XXth times, europeans 'tortured artists' (Van Gogh, etc.) usually drinken legally the famous ABSENTA liquor at cafes and restaurants, an average green coloured... that shared some of its components and chemicals with opium / heroin. It was chic, fashionable, artistic, more cheap than champagne. A single glass of that after lunch and you get 'out' until the day after, feeling no wish of nothing, desiring no sex, thinking of nothing, remembering not at all... next day consummers would said they were not out of this world but 'thinking' about Art (with a capital a) and sense of life. Absenta was banned at France after many consummers drive insane, but I swore yes I drank absenta in Barcelonne, Spain, circa 1980... badly for me, absenta don't made me a famous artist... but still I have two ears!
