(Reader Contribution to 8 Strangest Genetic Scientific Experiments)For the record, the spider/goat information is exceptionally misleading. You cannot make a hybrid spider-goat, but you can genetically engineer goats (and other mammals) to produce certain proteins in their milk, including the proteins used to make spider silk. Spider silk has enormous potential in use from everything from surgical sutures to bullet-proof vests. It is hoped that this work will allow significant production of spider silk without injuring spiders or goats! Similar techniques are being used to produce anti-biotics and insulin in cow milk.
