Buildings in Curacao
(Reader Contribution to 12 Strangely Painted Homes)
I went on a cruise last year and visited Curacao, the thing that caught my attention was that the buildings all had really bright colors. The legend says that an old Dutch Governor prohibited white buildings because the glare from the sun gave him headaches. The unofficial part of the legend is that he went to a doctor to see what was causing the headaches and this doctor was the owner of a paint manufacturer...ironic isn't it?
